if you see someone run, hide and shutdown then msg that person to disconnect - they still get all the cash and XP, and they don't die

Is that true?

If so it is a legitimate retreat option for those who are weirdly obsessed with thier KDR or do it for 'immersion' purposes.

If you run out of bounds is that counted as a death also?

its an issue with the map, and ecm, and not with players. if the last 2 mechs are a full health atlas, and a heavily damaged weaponless light mech (non-ecm), and it simply out runs the fat *** atlas hugging cover, then GG. its called da 'tactics.

Running away isn't tactics, dude.

Holding range and engaging a heavier and slower enemy on terms that benefit you? That would be a tactical approach.

Just running away and losing anyway? There's nothing tactical about that. Equipping a bigger engine isn't "da tactics".

If you run out of bounds, you die. But if you just disconnect you don't die. You won't get credit for a victory, but presumably in that situation, you aren't going to win anyway. You'll still get credit for your accomplishments up until that point, and then the game will just end for everyone.

^^ and , depending on how the game went for you before you disconected, you possibly shaft yourself out of the lion`s share of the already somewhat stingy c-bill XP rewards.... 105xp, or 5xp? Maybe 50k Cbills or 5k for the bit of damage.......

Is of course entirely situational, but for example no kills = no assists, no focus fire = no spotting assists, and a light usally isn`t exactly the top DD in most matches, esp on skirmish. So he can either earn base lose amount, or have teh entire match be a 1000x more complete waste of time than the few precious minutes he`s "stealing" from other players (considering it`s his time, too, I`dont see the theft)

So, yeah, I can fully understand why someone may rather NOT do that if they haven`t been playing forever and are sitting on loads of cash and banked GXP. I don`t like to see people unnecessarily trying to pad their already completely irrelevant KDR, either, but if it`s allowed by the rules, it`s fair game.

Huh? I thought if someone disconnects you still have to kill them? I'm always hunting down disconnected mechs. The other day I thought a guy stopped fighting when he was the last alive. I thought he was letting the enemy shoot is legs and arms on purpose. Then the server informed me that he disconnected, and then I saw disconnected next to his name on scoreboard and it made sense.

But then again it wasn't practice/skirmish mode.

nope - if there is a disconnected player at the start of the game and his lifeless mech doesn't get killed before the last active player on his team dies, the game ends even though the disconnected player's mech wasn't killed

i even tried this myself - i was the last guy remaining so i disconnected (i was well hidden so nobody could have come after to kill me), and 15-20sec later my mech became available again which means the game ended the second i disconnected

and you don't lose out on any cash or xp doing this - if you are the last player you are/were (likely) going to lose anyways, and you can't get any more assists if there's no other teammates to kill things to get an assist from

Oh I see so it takes 15-20 seconds. That explains it. Cause I know i've seen a last man disconnect, and still get killed. And i know i've hunted down afks in their start area and killed them as well.

My issue is the lone damaged spider running to the far edges in alpine with 6 heavier mechs in pursuit.... They will never catch the spider, at least not before the timer runs out, and the spider is not powered down, but is hiding none-the-less. So I'm dead.... Waiting for my mech to come out of the match so I can get on with life, but am forced to wait out the full timer because the spider refuses to re-engage and get the inevitable over with. Now, I get where people say the spider had a chance to win. No he did not. There were several healthy mechs on our side still and they were marching together (gasp! teamwork!) so the spider with ML and MGs could not have isolated a lone victim. Not that he even knew because he wasn't looking for an opportunity, just doing laps around the edge of the map.... THAT's griefing and that's when I report.

So you spread out into 3 groups of two and you corral the little ****** and kill him.

I've still never seen a successful griefer in Skirmish. I've seen a few try, they all died. You're more likely to get cored from behind by a TKing {Dezgra} at the start of a match than have to deal with the mythical 'ninja-griefer-spider'.

Possibly. Your goal is to stay alive so your team can come kill the spider while it eats your face.
