I started working on the Atlas line and bought the D-DC to complement my existing old RS. I needed a third and decided on the BH since it was on sale, and looks to be the strongest brawler of all the variants. I'm currently running with a 375 standard, 6 mlas, asrm6 and AC20. I have found it to be quite enjoyable and eminently maneuverable even without speed tweak. I play it exactly how I play my Orions, except unlike my Orions, it has nothing to fear from any other mech in the game at the sub 300m mark. How do you play and build yours?

I've found the BH to be a bit difficult to find a build I was comfortable with, due to the limited hard points. I ended up with a STD350, 2 PPC, 4 ML, AC/20 build.

Initially I ran with the xl400, 4ppcs and 2mplas since I didn't have enough cash to get the standard engine. It was amusing and got me some high damage games, but one cannot tank with an XL and I purchased the BH specifically to facepunch every other mech in the game. I really dig those 6 articulated energy hardpoints ;) I wish it would have had an extra ballistic though... But then it would have just been silly.

I went crazy and put 6 Large Lasers on it. Almost enough speed to forget its an Atlas. Hmm speed tweak. ;)

Now I just need to get at least 2 more Atlas.

But since it's an Atlas, it has no ability to dictate range... which means that you are effectively just praying that your enemy will be foolish enough to get within 300m.

And if he isn't, then you are kind of hosed.

And that is the knack of being a good Atlas pilot. I can think of no other Mech better suited to training a player to be more tactically aware than the Atlas with a max speed bordering around 65kph and zero jump jets. The maps provide enough cover to allow you to get close to the enemy, but matches do not always go in your favour and it's a tough call to make for when to push the front line.

Imo, the purpose of the Atlas is not so much to dictate range, but to push the enemy out of a location and allow your team to move in. The other Mechs on your team then have the weapons required to dictate the terms of the ensuing fire fight. The reason I put those close range weapons on the BH is that I don't feel an Atlas is particularly safe fighting a long range sniper war in the first place, so I want to specialize it into a tank / pusher role instead.
