After participating in the UI 2.0 test, there is one small issue that keeps itching at my cranium, and that is the view style of the mech in the mechlab.

That is, the view of the currently selected mech is terribly orthogonal. I don't have the ability to measure the FoV exactly, but the view is either perfectly orthographic or has a really low single digit FoV.

Even with the fancy lighting and visuals in the lab, the orthographic view causes the mechs to look unfortunately unbelievable.

Is anyone else noticing this or is bothered by this?

The WoT view of their garage and tanks should be duplicated in MWO. I love being able to rotate and zoom in and out to see all angles of my Tanks, close up and from a distance. While I much prefer MWO gameplay, WoT has the details down that make me go back every now and then to experience some quality.

I never played World of Tanks. Lemme summon up YouTube for a moment, and... oh, that is a nice view style. It would fit very well in the camo spec too.

i believe the word you are looking for is asymmetrical.

I prefer looking out the cockpit blowing stuff up. I could care less about how it looks while I tweak the loadout.

I'd like something more open feeling like the warthunder plane/hangar view. ui 2.0 the mechbay looks very small, mechs are way to huge. something we could pan/rotate would be much nicer, and zoom in/out

Warthunders hanger view is easily the best view in any game I have taken an interest in or played, and most likely the place I'll be, or in Aion, on the 4th of Feb if my fears about UI2 are well founded.

Isometric projection is a drafting term. The physical exercise you are referring to is derived from this term.

Another similar visualization is Orthographic projection; where there is no depth of field at all. That is, each aspect of a 3D object is displayed at exactly to same distance.

Another thought would be for PGI to sell mechlab "backdrops" like an open field, a cityscape, etc, which we could have as backgrounds to then view the mechs within mechlab from.

Actually, to me the change in FOV seemed to make the mechs look larger. Might be the unchanging camera too. I sort of like it that way though I could think of other ways to make them look larger.

I support this idea. Might be nice for painting if you could grab the proper lighting.
