Russ Bullock asked for this poll over at NGNG so here it is!

I would like to gauge the community for more pilot and cockpit effects.

Such as but not limited to:

Steam on in cockpit on high heat 80% or more.

Sparks and breaking pipes and cables when taking internal damage.

Cockpit glass damage and breaking when taking internal head damage.

Pilot moving his hands to flip switches (like during the startup sequence)
for mech functions such as: Nightvision, Heatvision, Missile bay doors, ECM mode.

Pilot audio queue with coordinates for airstrikes and artillity strikes.

Things like this would greatly improve immersion, the game is already taking baby steps towards these but I would like to see them going even further.

Its not that I don't want special effects in the cockpit its more like I don't want my FPS to decrease anymore then it has to.

In addition to smoke or a heat shimmer effect when my mech is running at 95% or more on the heat scale. I want a trucker fan to drop down when I shut down due to heat.

I voted no on the steam because when the mech is running hot and generates that steam cloud I get FPS tankage if Im standing still in it.

Don't need more

Why would the cockpit fill with steam?!
Is there a puddle of water on the deck?
Has a cooling fluid pipe burst?
Is the kettle PPC activated?

Why not heat haze?

Does not have to be these specific effects, could be a heat shimmer, they are just examples.

All throughout Battletech there has been very severe side effects of running hot. The things I'm discussing are merely visual, and do not have to be debilitating at all.
But even if they were it would not be unwarranted, possibly slow down your mechs movement (legs, torso and arms) when going even higher. At the current state of the game heat is just an uninteresting bar that fills up until you go over 100%, only past that threshold does it start to have negative implications, this should start much earlier, with first visual effects, then a small handicap, leading up to damage (as it is currently) and ultimately death.

+1 to that.

(Only thing that i don't really want in the poll is the voice calling for arty. I like the cockpit's silence to be only troubled by shots and a computerish voice.)

It could be Betty confirming: "Airstrike on Charlie one quadrant 2".

Perhaps teamwide... there is currently no way for the team to know that a strike has been ordered.

why steam in cockpit? I think a flickering Hud and wobbeling Pilots sight with short blackouts would be more realistical. Because he fighting against the oOverheating of his Body

To keep a cockpit livable when the core is nearing 1000K many closed loops of cooling systems are running, and the extreme heat could wreak havoc with life support systems (water from the air conditioning and plumbing) causing steam buildup.

Or even worse coolant leaks, which are probably toxic.

Yes on everything but I dont expect them to do a very good job of it, or even get these for a long time so it really wont matter.

MOAR IMMERSION!

But please make some of them off-switchable, for things like fan made videos, where you need camera mechs.

Steam is already dissapated out the mech when it builds up.

This isn't really an issue since a camera mech just wouldnt be on high heat, or it is not getting shot at, or calling in air strikes.

Yes I know what you refer to but this is only on the outside, I'm talking about a more subtle effect also occuring indoors, where the heatlevel goes beyond what the lifesupport systems can mittigate without problems but no damage is suffered yet.
