Pet theory... they make the Urbanmech a 35tonner. Very controversial, but would give the mech a better chance at being actually viable.

Now that you mention it this makes sense. Spider is a controversial mech and I always wanted this mech, but with it's lack of ECM nowadays makes it less valued.

Venom isn't going to happen, it's a 3055 'Mech. The controversy would be the fact that they broke the time line to add pretty much the same thing as a Spider?

I will contribute to Speculation I suppose...

The Spector?
http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Spector

Used by a famous Merc unit (or 2 really)...

Quote

Only in 3048 rumors spread that the mercenary units McCarron's Armored Cavalry and Storm's Metal Thunder were fielding Spectors, presumably recovered from an ancient cache, although neither admitted to fielding vintage Star League era 'Mechs.[1][4]

Lastly, controversial because of it's electronics packages (although I can't see any of the heat masking or stealth camo being used). Maybe controversy because it is another ECM mech or because it was only rumored to being used before 3053??

No matter how strongly I'd wish to see Mongoose, I realize that PGI is in urgent need for cash, so it should be really good money grab deal. Urbie would be perfect for that, I think. I just can't imagine anything else what could potentially bring PGI more money in such tough situation. Oh well, I know: Urbie + special Urbanmech pilot icon for forum (for extra charge of course)!

Javelin - ECM and lots of missile ports. Remember way back to... yesterday when Russ said they were originally worried about the Oxide originally having 6 missile hardpoints (reduced to 4), and how it was foolish in retrospect... well, compared to a 4x SSRM2 ECM Javelin, yes, because this mech will be stupidly powerful and they would not sold another Oxide (or other hero mech) ever.

Im going to have to go with the Javelin as the most likely winner.

If it is controversial it is 100% the Javelin with its ECM and missile slots and jumpjets. Cant get much more controversial than that...

The more I think about it the more I am convinced it is the Javelin.

About 50% of the community absolutely hates ECM
About 50% hates Jump Jets
About 75% hate light mechs
About 90% hate broken hit boxes (something all new lights come equipped with standard)
and everyone not categorized by the above absolutely hates SSRM2

Plus they can reuse most of their art assets.A Javelin is basically a commando with a shrunken hunchback 4SP torso and a Victor head. Just add some blue fire coming out of its butt and presto, instant new mech.

Controversial? How about a Raven with ECM and jump jets? or a Spider with missile hardpoints?

Firestarter would be controversial because it's a 35 tonner (already have 2), it's got ridiculous hard points and it isn't slow (similar to the Raven).

Ridiculous hard poits???
What's wrong with six energy and two ballistic hard points?

The Firestarter has only advantages: Lots of variants, all jump capable, ECM variants, BAP variants!
An perfect candidate for MWO!

My guess is the Javelin.

Gives us a 2nd 30 ton mech.

It's humanoid.

It's controversial due to it's use of missiles as it's primary weaponry.

It's not the Panther.

I only pilot chicken-legged mechs. There are few IS chicken walkers, there are a ton of clan ones. I am going to run out of mech bays...

Could have sworn they once said the UrbanMech was being looked at/modeled/on their list.

It's one of the most ridiculously requested light mechs out there (gimme the Wolfhound or Panther personally), and PGI has given it some attention in the past by making a cockpit item in recognition of its popularity.

So I wouldn't be surprised if it's the new mech next month.

  • I cant find a light mech in timeline that would be more controversial to implement due to it being a spider upgrade, as many people take umbrage at spiders as it is. Could there be anything more controversial than a spider with wings, 5 extra tonnes and reused art assets?
  • It would be sensible that if you had something like this thats a bit samey to an existing mech, to release it in a month when another mech was coming as well.
  • The manufacturer for the mech is primarily Kuritan, which fulfills the criteria for faction specific.
  • Its not unseen
  • Its still a light
  • It has 3 variants
  • Humanoid
  • Previously "completely unseen" within a certain interpretation of the context
  • There was a relatively small poll suggesting the venom as a hero mech for the spider back in march 2013 when spiders where rubbish that the community voted generally favourably on, but it was discussed by the community within that thread that it is a separate chassis.
  • It opens the door for other "upgraded" chassis to be released as a 2nd mech per month probably relatively cost effectively for mechs such as the Grand Dragon (and maybe stretching things a bit, things like the Atlas II if they add a couple of non canon variant designations).
The hero had better come with a black and white paint scheme or I will lose all my remaining faith in PGI.

Or better yet, a red black and white one. The hero mech would be called "Carnage"!

If controversial plays into it there's only two mechs I can think of that might stir the pot - Hollander or Firestarter.

Hollander - light mech that carries a guass? I can see some people going apoplectic

Firestarter - controversial because it's weapon loadout - flamers - was designed to handle infantry, not mechs and so seems completely out of place in the current game.
