This is an update about my friend. Still no donor match. His spleen is enlarged and causes him pain but does not stop him from doing things. Other than that is is keeping healthy as much as he can.

Hopefully it works out and he finds a donor. I'll keep carrying the link regardless. I wonder if posting it across multiple boards would help....

Why don't we do a stream at some point for this? I'm set up for a damned decent stream, and it worked well for Gimpy. Or, at least, his Multiple Sclerosis event. I'd donate a Saturday, friday night, etc. for such a purpose.

My wife says she'd play too, if it helps. Can't join the bm registry without blood tests, right? Maybe a stream with a pledge board?

Just found this. Folding @ Home is a program by Stanford University to simulate protein folding.

Running in the background of your PC, your computer is given a problem to solve to help study the dynamics of protein folding, medicine design, and molecular dynamics. More to the point of this thread and post, when you launch the software a window is opened up that controls your client.

I have installed this software and have made a "team" called team 132315 (13-M 23-W 15-O). By joining this team, your computer will attribute unused processor memory to research. I have set my control to "I support research fighting Cancer," both in honor of Sarah and in honor of Ripper's friend. I'm not sure if by joining the group you option changes, but I'd advise you change it to whatever you hope to fight.

Help develop cures. Fold @ Home

By clicking the link above, downloading and installing the software, and joining the group 132315 in the browser window it should open up, you can help fight cancer.

Sorry to hear it. Went through a bone marrow transplant myself and it is a long hard road. Thankfully my sister was a match for me but if your friend is unable I did have people in my group who were donating their own stem-cells as a donor. Although a second best option it is at least an option which makes can make all the difference in the world.

Been on the marrow donor list since 1992....I urge everyone to take the time, give a little blood and get on the list. The chances for a match are greatly increased as the donor population increases. Blacks and Hispanics are needed the most as they have currently the lowest number of donors and in order to be a match and not have the body reject the donor, race does play a big factor.

Not much to update. No donor as of yet. Still no signs of leukemia. He is still in pain from his enlarged spleen. Other than that he is doing ok.

My friend's condition remains unchanged for the moment. Still no donor match. Still suffering from pain because of his enlarged spleen.

He still does the goofiest things like he always has. Such as the following pics show during fishing from a boat.

So far Bob has hooked at least 3 people including himself in his back. That is him trying to remove the hook from our friends head.

Update. My friend has several Bone Marrow matches. Since the procedure is extremely dangerous, they have to wait until the disease gets much worse. His on on new medications to keep his enlarged spleen in check and is actually doing pretty good. Since his disease was caught super early in its development he can have several years before he has to do the procedure. I would like to thank everyone and remember your bone marrow donation can help someone in need so please donate.

Thank you.
