The percentage of times that I've died because of side torsos popping is negligible. My CT almost always go first, or my arms and then the side torsos. If you know how to distribute damage well in a phract, you can survive a lot longer than the enemy team wants you to with an XL engine. Maybe not if you dont have your mechs elited....the 2X basics help a whole lot with surviving with an XL. Just saying you people make it seem like phracts go out fire a couple shots and die instantly, but i guess you just havent played any good phract players with XL's yet.

the reason that cataphracts sides dont look big there is because the jagger is closer resulting in the cataphract appearing to look smaller overall than the jaggermech when it is actually a pretty "fat" mech

XL - STD engine always depends on the loadout and playstyle of the mech. Brawlers need to be wary of XL. ;)

Maybe its because i run one quite successfully, But I'm far more terrified of a triple LB10 Ilya than a double AC10 3D.
It is absolutely brutal at close ranges. And if you ignore me at 500 meters, I'm going to peel your entire 'Mech apart while i get close. Turn to the side to protect your CT and ill rip your arm/leg off instead XD

People underestimate the strength of an LB10, even after the spread got tightened.

I do run a Dual UAC5+4ML 3D though, and i do love it.

The triple LBX and AC10 designs only scare me at the beginning of a match. The reason why is that they have the ammo to hurt you but not the stamina. On top of that they have to put a small XL engine in it, making it slow and all my mechs, under Assault class, do 76-100+kph meaning that I control the range of the fight. So unless I do something stupid like poke my head around a corner and not have my team nearby they generally are not a threat. The ones that do scare me are the triple UAC5s that are not chained; 30 damage every 1.5 seconds really ruins your day.

Trust me, looking straight on they are not that big and at any angle from the sides the shoulder/arms take the damage. With proper torso twisting, dual AC10s give plenty of time to twist away and back to fire again, you last a very long time. Oh and some more proof, I do not notice a difference in survival with a standard in my 1X than I do in any of my other Cataphracts all running XLs.

But people like you ruin the game for everyone who is not using XL engines. Or people without the cbills to afford them

??? Not sure some mechs using XLs and some not is ruining the game. Assults are often not equipped with XLs and they wreck face. So im not sure what our getting at.

The experts know better! No point trying to change their mind.

Cataphracts hitboxes were updated in the patch. Using XL in a Cataphract may no longer be suicide.

I wish that they did an art pass on them. I would like for them to show/not show weapons and to show the different types like every other mech, but since we have a hero for them it is going to be forever for them to do.

it never was for those of us who spent more time learning to play than complaining on the forums.

Many a Medium Mech has crapped their pants when they realized a 70 ton Cataphract was running faster than they were.

Hate to say this but that's why medium mechs are so nerfed right now. At least the Grid Iron should have the option of a 300 engine so I can go 110+. My J model hunch IS going to get caught by that Phract who's only a wee bit slower but has TONS of damage :D
