I recently purchased a Cataphract-1X with to unlock the Elite Efficiencies on my Ilya.
I wanted to max the Basic Efficiencies out without spending a dime on this thing, but I'm averaging out on 100 damage done per match and it's going to take a while like this.
The build I'm using is
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...bbb01eef2305c4a
I pretty much threw things on it that I already own.

What would be the cheapest way to make this mech halfway decent?
I'm not looking to top boards or do 800 damage per match, I just want to speed this process up, I'm probably going to sell this thing anyway when I'm done.

Throw in ES and more DHS and Armor and you get this

CTF-1X

Or a little short range backup (2 MPL in the arms instead of one of the LL) and max armour.
it has a slightly worse heat profile, but only if you alpha every weapon, if you only shoot the long range weapons or only the short range weapons then it is really good,

CTF-1X

Alright let's try that out and if I have heat problems I'll try out Rushin Roulette's extra DHS one.

Edit: Oh that definitely increased my damage output. Thanks for the help guys.

No, no, no... Holy ****, no. Dear gawds, that made me cringe.

Nothing personal, man, it's just that there's budget, and then there's... that.

THIS is "budget" in the sense that it uses the stock engine. It'll probably cost another 3 million c-bills, but it's effective and very easy to use.

The 1X is probably the worst CTF to use SHS on given it's the energy-heavy variant.

If you're willing to go to DHS, want to keep the STD 280, and don't want to get Endo, then (based on your original load out) here is what I'd suggest:

CTF-1X

2x ERLL and an ERPPC with managable heat efficiency. It's got quite strong long range punch without losing short-range capability. All the weapons being on the arms makes it more responsive, though you could easily swap the ERPPC to a shoulder if you prefer the higher firing point.

Of course, this is only cheap if you own at least one spare ERPPC and two ERLLs. You could easily swap to standards for all three, though at that point you are probably way too heat efficient.

I use something like this: http://mwo.smurfy-ne...8c1ad0b3c8bcb8b . Except I use Endo and no AMS to get a bigger engine. But I was keeping those elements of your original design.

You'll need DHS, there is nothing you can do about that. But this version saves you from needing Endo and Ferro so that's something.

Another option for this build would be to put the ERLLs in the side torsos to take advantage of the higher clearance for long range shooting, and replace the ERPPC with a LPL for close in work (yes, the range sucks, but slightly better damage within optimum and cooler running so long as you avoid ghost heat shenanigans).

If you want to save $ you could do fine with the stock loadout honestly, but dual heat sinks is not optional, it's mandatory.

Upgrade to DHS run the stock loadout add another ton of ammo and fill the rest with more heatsinks. I'd put both the ppc and ac10 in the same torso though.

I'm not sure about cheap, but I love this setup. Fire the LLs for pinpoint damage, and only use the LB-10X once something is exposed. It's a blast.

DHS and Endo Steel are pretty much mandatory upgrades. Like it or not, to level the thing you're going to be piloting it for a while. Go ahead and do at least those two things.

I'm not sure where my 315XL came from. I stole it off something else.

Personally would go with something like this, making sure to use the stock engine to avoid buying an XL which gets very expensive, and you can either keep the AC10 or go for an LC 10-x depending on taste, obviously you will already own the AC10, and it sounds like you have splashed out on double heat sinks already.
