To summarize... I think the following weights are acceptable places to look for a first mech.

35 tons. 45 to 55 tons. 65 to 75 tons. 85 tons. Anything not within those ranges are bound to have complications.

I started with the Hunchback-4g. I know it sounds bad but it was fun and i ended nearly all games with 200+ damage. This was before many newer mechs were in game and it wasn't as obsolete (although it was still garbage). But i wouldn't recommend assault mechs to new players. I would recommend centurions, catapults, cataphracts, or if you have to go assault stalkers. I am not a meta gamer. I am very effective on the battlefield but i don't follow trends. I think up my own builds then test them and that works for me better than cookie cutters. Good Luck.

I would definitely by the G over the H I made that mistake and it just can't torso pitch like the G can. The Grid Iron is basically a C-bill bonus'd variant G with an extra missle slot that probably will go unused and requiring a different engine.

Once SRM's are fixed...that Missile slot is going to be used. HUHUHUHU.

LBX-10 + ASRMS6 = Shotgun Hunchie.

Might try it. Main thing is I don't have any spare XLs. Too many of my 90 mechs don't have engines as it is.

Also, see the post I did back up there about the Grid Iron again; I took the shot for you. Watching it happen was hilarious. One minute I'm making an enemy Victor and Atlas (also an enemy) shoot each other, the next the Atlas kills both of us and the Victor slams into me, which slingshots me into a somersault to that pillar where I slump down like "...I'm gonna sit for a minute; gettin' too old for this."

It really does look like he's just taking a little breather. "I just need a minute." Like an Action hero who had just taken down several opponents and held up a finger and said that to the rest. Add in some gray hair and you're golden!

Victor's corpse didn't go far, off to the right. I was near the landramp and the wall to the left of the tunnel when leaving it, when I was killed. That's how far I was thrown by the Atlas's weapon combination. Or what I can assume was it, as I honestly never saw some of the weapons it lists (but standing with a Victor leaping over me twice and an Atlas that I'm trying to hide from, god knows what came at me). The Victor also had 2 PPCs and an AC/20, which was why it was so funny to get them to shoot each other even if it didn't last long. Neither of them seemed to care about friendly fire; "competitive" players eh?

While I waited for the screen to clear -- took forever and a day -- there was this moment.

When first watching that, my initial reaction was: "Welp, I guess tonight I am going to be singling out and chasing down Cicadas in my tiny bird."

Now its: "Oh god, WHY ARE THERE SO MANY OF THEM!?"

More like noobs who copied meta builds. Good players have fire discipline.

While true, good players tend to either get a really good shot -- or die for a lack of a good shot to take.
The bad player shoots wildly and wins, even if blowing away a teammate in the process.

<.<; As you can tell, either way I win in some way or another by using enemies as shields.

a medium like a shadow hawk, blackjack, centurion or even trebs and kintaros, cicadas are fun. these are inexpensive mechs and let you dabble with fun weapons and let you get around.

in the end I think most people enjoy moving quickly, but I don't recommend lights to beginners. just go to smurfy before you buy to make sure you can equip weapon X if you have your heart set on a weapon.

if you start out grinding atlas it'll cost more and be awhile before you even get to see all the nooks and crannies of the larger maps. knowing maps is, has and always will be huge advantage in any shooter.
