I want to start a new Flavor of the Month... I call it "Medium Assault Mechs"

Medium Assault Mechs range from 45-55 tons and carry an Assault Mech's firepower, such as the AC/20 + 2 PPC Hunchback 4G, or the 2 AC/5 + 2 PPC Trebuchet 7K. Running a Medium Mech with an Assault Mech's weapons feels pretty much like driving an Assault Mech, except you can't rely on yourself as a bullet-sponge to stay alive anymore. Instead you have to act strategically, and the rewards of good piloting make you feel like a Mech-driving God.

Why the heck would you ever do this? Well, 3 reasons - it's absolutely fun, it makes you a better pilot, and you're going to find a much faster MatchMaking process with Medium Mechs than you will with Assault Mechs once team tonnage limitations go into effect. Think about it: when teams have to be lighter than they are now, the matchMaker will insert Medium Mechs readily into games, but Assault Mechs will have to be spread thin across large numbers of games [likely resulting in longer wait times].

I'm not suggesting that you will be more effective on the field as a Medium Assault Pilot than in an actual Assault Mech...but when there are only 2 Assault Mechs on your entire team, your team might benefit from a couple good old fashioned (I'm gonna say it...) Slow Mediums to deliver massive firepower while the genuine Assault Mechs absorb the enemy fire.

Slow Assault Mediums are light-weight alternatives to Assault Mechs that will fit into team tonnage requirements, and provide a fun and fairly terrifying gameplay experience where your life feels like it hangs in the balance of each and every trigger pull. If you likes playing the Sci Fi game Dead Space, then you will love piloting an Medium Assault Mech.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

One cannot try to think ahead of the curve! The only acceptable playstyle is to use the predetermined flavor off the month and engage in stand off pogostick matches at long range with PPCs, and ACs! (Can't use Gauss, as they require skill now and so are not Meta "FotM" approved!)

Anything else makes you a BAD, and you should feel BAD for you are handicapping your all important team from the all important goal of winning, for the sake of maybe becoming a better pilot and *GASP* actually trying to inject a little fun and flavor into the game! You are selfish and should feel DOUBLE BAD!

BAD!!!

BAD!!!!!!!!!

I think tonnage limits will be worse for the game, not better. A lot of people drive Assaults because . . . a lot of people want to drive Assaults. Take that choice away, either directly or indirectly, is going to have negative consequences. But I'm going off topic.

You are asking people to drive substandard builds. Your approach only works if everyone agrees to follow "gentlemen's rules". It won't happen. Some people think Medium mechs suck. They are simply unenjoyable to some people. Forcing people to play them won't magically change that. As I said, it's going to be detrimental. I'm not looking forward to that day.

and being forced to play Heavy and Assault Jump Snipers is somehow better or more acceptable?

Sounds to me like all PP is intimating is that wouldn't it be neat to see if we have people out there willing to buck the trend and try to shift the meta, from the default, "path of least resistance" aka "EZModetm" to encouraging people to try to run mechs that actually make you a better player, to try something not cookie cutter.

If you think he is seriously believing posting on the forums could force some groundswell against the way gamers have played as long as there have been games, I think one or the other of us has misread his intent and this post. But I know I sure get bored of the "HIGH Elo Pros" posting nothing but what is the FotM and how if you use anything else you are a BAD.

I'll tell you right now, when Private matchmaking goes into effect, people like Prosperity are gonna be the first on my invite list, and we are going to have some fun "Gentlemen's Leagues" going.

That's close to what I mean. I've been running Hunchbacks with shoulder cannon(s) and 1 PPC of some sort for a while now.

What I'm suggesting in this thread is that if you want to play the Assault Role, you can do it from an Assault Mech and you will hog 90 tons of your team's weight and have to wait a long time for an opening of your mass-size to show up... or you can drive an overloaded medium Mech and drop easily into the fray. All the while you're bringing Assault-class weapons to support your team in a Medium Mech; that effectively denies your enemy team anything heavier than a Medium Mech because of the weight limits.

An overloaded medium Mech working alongside an Assault mech can cause just as much damage as 2 Assault Mechs working together.. for up to 55% fewer tons!

we will.

Lemmings, by nature don't know real fun, as they just run wherever the azz in front of them is headed. It's pretty amazing how fun it can be to pick your head up and actually try a different view.

Im enjoying

3erll 110kph bucket

all sorts of 90kph dakka shadowhawks

2ac5 1erll 97kph centurion

2ppc 2ml jumping fatkid quickdraw

also I am finally learning to play lights in anticipation of weight balancing

I started this game as a dragon pilot and I've been finding mechs to fit the cavalry role ever since.

Sadly almost every other middleweight fulfills the cavalry heavy role better than either 60 tonners >_>

You are late to the party if you are trying to imply I am a lemming Bish. Like I said.....have fun.

Having a different point of view can indeed be great fun.

up to you to decide if you are one or not. All I am saying is not following the trend, can be quite satisfying. It can also get you disintegrated. But I digress........

"The Trend" will change drastically when Weight Limits are introduced -

I am not trying to buck the trend, for the trend will change shortly. I am trying to precede the forced change in trend by suggesting we change now, before being forced to change. People ask why we should play before Community Warfare is released. Simpe: to have a suite of loaded mechs and experience playing the game. The unlimited team weights in competitive matches is going to go away. Poof. Gone. If you want to play an Assault mech, you have to accept the fact that everybody else in the game is going to have to accommodate your "request" to play with 90+ team tons. If you're a good player, though, you can play in a lighter vehicle that's overloaded with weapons and release more tonnage for your teammates to work with.

Practice now = better results when team weight limits are enforced.

Otherwise, have fun waiting in the Assault Mech queue...

How dare you suggest or even imply that the current FotM will not be the FotM in another month or 2?!?!?!?! ABSOLUTE BLASPHEMY!!! :P

But the nice thing is that come April, we`ll see all the Church of SkillTM loadout gourmets whining over their own cheese.. I hope that winds up as delicious as it sounds... ;) ;)

The Cult of the FotM will brand you as a heretic and burn you at the stake. How dare you suggest people be individuals and think for themselves?! Repent from your individualistic thoughts and rejoin the hive mind! How dare you suggest people develop a semblance of skill or versatility?! Repent and rejoin the Collective or you will be assimilated!
