The mechs aren't even supposed to have actual glass cockpits, and I am not a huge cannon nerd for BattleTech or anything, it just doesn't make any sense at all, it looks stupid, and it should be optional. It breaks my immersion in the game.

Definitely not spending any more money on cosmetic stuff in a game where the devs are going to repeatedly change the cosmetic style of it. See: Catapult changes.

I always pictured them as armored pods with cameras on the outside projecting directly into the crazy mech-suit-dude's head and I really don't give a in the world if you agree or disagree, these kinds of changes should be optional.

Post-haste edit:

SPENDS $55 ON A TIMBER WOLF

My girlfriend spends $55 on fingernail paint that's guaranteed to flake off in two weeks.

I don't like it personally, but it's not a deal-breaker.

Ok, a glass texture in a glass cockpit breaks immersion. I've had wrong this whole time...

Should I see the cockpit glass if I switched of film grain?

So if I am understanding your ******** correctly, you are mad because the battletech action simulator is now more closely replicating battletech?

Shut. Up.

I agree that we should have an option to turn it on or off if we so choose. But to make a vendetta like this is unnecessary.

I know it sounds like a stupid idea to put a big glass cockpit on a walking tank for the pilot to sit in. The original BattleTech developers knew this, so they made sure the canopy was made of sci-fi handwavium that was proof against ballistics and lasers etc (to a point). But still the weak point, because headshots add drama.

They had a choice to either make the game realistic or cool. They chose COOL, because if you try to inject realism into a game of giant walking War Mecha you'll run into the problem that the whole premise is ludicrous!

In the fluff / novels, there are even descriptions of the pilots of brawling Mechs being able to see each other inside their cockpits - which implies the canopies were often transparent! Of course this is insane with all those lasers flashing around, but it created cool images reminiscent of WW1 fighter jocks dogfighting and being able to see their opponent in the plane as they battle.

In the sci-fi future of 1984, cool is way better than realistic.

The problem with this is that then you force people to make a decision... have the game look pretty, or play competitively.

That kind of stuff is garbage, just like the night maps.

Play with lighting settings that look kind of cool, but make it hard to see... or just jack your gamma up to max, have everything look washed out, but gain a huge competitive advantage.

I'd rather they just stopped putting stuff into the game that hampered visibility.

Speak for yourself dude... This game isn't made for MLG it's made for mech heads looking for a decent sim. This is one of the best updates they have had I'm a long time and I love it. You don't play this game competitively, at least not till private matches are added.

Ok. Well, they don't though. Have you ever seen the art?

So, if given the option to turn off those various things, you would choose to leave them turned on despite the disadvantage it gave you?

And know that any player who you are playing against in the game could turn them off, and be able to enjoy a competitive advantage?

Really, you'd be cool with that, and choose to put yourself at a disadvantage?

If it looks cool? Yeah, I'd be up for that. If winning and winning alone is the source of your enjoyment in MWO, then I can understand your viewpoint, but not every player feels the need win at any cost in order to enjoy a game. Immersion and eyecandy are also compelling factors to some players, myself included

Not everyone likes it. Plus it looks obtrusive if youre trying to record the game. You should be able to toggle it on/off.

I mean while this cockpit glass isn't fully needed, seriously if you feel that way about Battletech...

Should be optional.

With the film grain, colour pallet choice, lack of proper AA and now glass the game looks muddy and dull.

If you look at some of the screen shots that chap took with the custom config and sweet FX you see how amazing this game could look.

I'm having no problems aiming at stuff with the cockpit glass implemented, so I fail to see what all the fuss is about...

Tamper with game files since marchish when they introduced the CoC on that and risk your account getting banned.
