I feel like this feature is nice, but since it was introduced after the game launched it is jarring.

That's probably why some people do not care for it.

I like it honestly and I think it adds to the immersion. I hardly notice it on the glass in front of me, and the reflections on the side glass are kind of neat.

If they do decide to add damage in the future, I hope it happens only if the head becomes really damaged (no armor and orange internals).

Oddly, it messes with my immersion.
In the current military, part of the job of the flight crew is to make sure the canopy is spotless. I can't imagine that the crew who repair, paint, rearm and refit our mechs can't manage a bottle of Windex and a microfiber towel.

I played a handful of matches in a jager and cataphract last night and can't really say i noticed much difference. I've been told the effect is much worse on maps with a lot of grey in them but haven't had a chance to test those maps yet.

i simply expected a glass effect that is visible in reflections etc. why do we need scratches to see the glass?

I thought if you took a cockpit hit the glass would crack of shatter. Not just be dusty? Can I get a Windex shot?

I think I missed the glass effect because of all the OP animation effects from weapon fire being so OP you cant see {Scrap} anyway?

I like the cockpit glass, just wish they would get rid of the film grain, that would resolve a lot of the visibility issues people are having.

Think of it this way... We start the match in the map without any sign of the dropship. Maybe the windshield was clean, but by the time the dropship took off (kicking up a cloud of dust mind you), they became dusty :D.

Besides, a lot of it is probably scratches from heavy use and deployment. The glass should be replaceed, but the IS doesn't have the resources to mass produce cockpit glass, so they get as much distance out of it as they can.

Yea, I'm just spewing stuff, but it sounds legit anyway.

This. So much this.....

That cockpit glass took a single artist about 2-3 days to do the whole lot, and then a shader artist to get the effect in game.

People who think that a simple geo object and texture job REPLACED a feature demanding massive amounts of developers and designers need to get their heads checked.

I'm guessing artists don't code the new artwork into the game, do they?

Totally different skill set, the code used to create an art asset is a different language than creating anything in that list, with the exception of maybe maps.

I said "Maybe" as I'm not sure if they're in the same skill set or not, but I do know that the rest aren't.

The ignorance on these forums is stunning, for the love of God please tell me you don't vote.

I'm not a fan of new glass feels to me like it takes away from the environment detail.

Seconded.

And I have not had an issue at all with the cockpit glass. I find it rather nice. Cycled through each map last night with my HBK, and found that it did nothing negative to my gameplay. And it was pretty cool looking around in my cockpit now with how the glass looks more realistic.

Though I would suggest that smoke/explosions/electrical fires/smog/fog/mud and other things get added to the panes of glass through the game. That would be really cool to me.

Windshield wipers would be a must at that point. :D

I for one am really enjoying the new glass effect. It's quite striking at times on some maps, but honestly I hardly notice it once the battle starts. To me it's jsut a little bit more immersion, and I'm all for it. That said, as soemone posted before the way the new glass reacts to the light and environment seems a little off, but I'm sure that cna be adjusted down the road. that or I'll stop noticing and it won't matter to me anyway.
Looking forward to when they turn on the crack/damage feature, but I hope they apply it in moderation as too much of it could hurt visibility too much (realism or no, there's a limit to what even reasonable people will tolerate). I figue that's why it's not released yet, they're fine-tuning how bad the cracks get. Hopefully, it only cracks on the cockpit taking damage, that'll save me a glance at the displays.
