The extra weight on the Gauss Rifle is traditionally associated with its lack of heat generation and the 2.5x longer range compared to the AC/20...

Any Idea that changes the weight or spaces of any weapon is automatically void do to the fact that PGI wants to/ have to use stock mechs. Asking to change the weight of one weapon requires re working multiple mechs that were designed to use that weapon in the first place.
So in a nutshell, not going to happen.
