On the BLR-1G (not sure about others haven't bought any) when placing weapons into the shoulders, the third weapon placed ends up in the high shoulder spot, but in the left shoulder after you change mechs and come back or enter game it moves the high shoulder spot weapon (last on the list in mechlab) inbetween the two other weapons.

I am trying to place an ERPPC in the highest position so I expose less of my mech and the game keeps moving it. Please fix that ASAP.

EDIT: After further testing it seems that the ERPPC is the only weapon it will move like that...

Known problem.

Each hardpoint in each location is assigned a place in sequence. This is why you always see the first energy weapon appear in the same place on that location. When a weapon is placed in that location it is assigned a spot in that sequence..

What happens sometimes with some mechs is that the weapons either purchased for it or that it came preloaded with are keep that place in sequence when removed. When you then put that weapon on a different mech it remembers that sequence, ignoring the fresh sequence. As such it looks right when you set it up but if you save the mech, swap to a different one then swap back you'll see the sequence of the fitting change, the high mounted 3rd Energy Slot will have something else and that ERPPC will be in the first slot.

So you bought a mech with an ERPPC before and removed it from that mech, it remembered the 'Slot Number' for energy that it was in and when you put it in the BLR-1G it used it's original 'Slot Number' instead of the one you assigned to it by sequence.

The work around for this is to strip the mech, sell off all of your ERPPCs, save the mech, configure it again, minus the ERPPCs, buy the ERPPCs and put them in place, then save.

Done right that should solve the problem. We are still waiting for this problem to be patched out since PGI has stated they will not give players manual control over which hardpoint is used when configuring mechs.

Welcome to MWO, please take a seat, have a cookie.

Very old problem affecting all weapons and 'mechs. Some weapons aquire some kind of "affinity" for certain hardpoints. Workarounds inlcude but are not limited to: -selling and rebuying all affected weapons (read: sell ALL erppc)
-loading affected weapons into unused 'mechs until the "special" ones are out
-not giving a ****
-uninstalling the game

Luckily for you, though, with the BLR it's not too big a deal apart from looking ugly. All shoulder weapons are at least at cockpit-height so if you can see the target you can hit the target (barring any vertical obstacles on your sides) with all shoulder weapons.

PS: sorry for the formatting, it won't let me edit it...

That tiny bit of height from the two lower slots to the higher one is enough for me to want it. I dropped that build however and went with something else. I haven't bought enough mechs in this game to have noticed that issue before, but hopefully they will fix it eventually (and the messed up start up sequence animations that hit the wrong button for weapons and sensors or skip a button altogether like the BLR does. Devs, Stop animating when you are falling asleep :D)

But hey, so much else to do to the game first right.

P.S. Really crappy that we won't ever be able to assign them exactly where we want, or at least the devs recognize prime spots and have them get filled first. Devs, higher = better in my opinion.
