Best Raven is 3L for sure (I run 2xmed laser, 2xssrms, 1xtag). 2X and 4X I run 2X as a ER Large Laser sniper and 4X as a jumping hunchie because I went cheap and sticked with XL 210. XL 295 will also be needed for BJ-1X later.
Incorrect, the 1D is an excellent chassis, 2 streaks and 2 MLs is the perfect mix of light hunting, and a precision 10 damage energy arm. It has 2 streaks basically until it dies, and you can run 0 armor on an arm, giving you an extra half ton. I have them all mastered and this commando has the best record of any of them.

wow, that's still true?
I've searched it in the forums and found a 1 year old thread where someone already contacted PGI, so I thought this would have been fixed a long time ago.

It's still true, and will continue to be so until PGI stops using the same code for all types of missiles (hint: never).

"Fairly soon" as PGI counts, or as the rest of the world counts?

I've toyed with the 3A and 1D, and I like them when things go my way, but I don't have the needed engine to make them viable. I actually like the 1D's layout a bit better since you can't lose your missiles to streaks eating your arms.
Favourite Raven is the 4X, because there's something satisfying about being a pint sized LB10.

Maybe the Raven as i see a lot of these but I do like that the commando is quite small.
RAVEN.
No question.
The 2 ER Large Raven 3L is a really good ECM 'mech. The Commando is really bad at everything, just by being so small. It can beat up Locusts easily enough but that's about it.
Just be aware that the Raven does not pilot like a Jenner, at least to make it highly effective. You'll want to hang with the main group most of the time (instead of running around fighting other lights) and engage the heaviest targets, not the smallest ones.
What this does is provide ECM coverage for your whole team, which is a huge help, while racking up huge damage by virtue of being hard to target (ECM) and a low priority (Trust me, the other assaults are worrying about that Highlander and not you as long as you're not holding still or making yourself an easy target!)
You see the Raven a lot in hardcore games now and it racks up hundreds of damage points.
The Commando plays more like a Jenner. A kind of terrible Jenner, but more traditional. I'd still highly recommend the Raven.*
*The one downside is that the 4X is horrendous, but you'll want to get it to master the 3L eventually. heh

But the layout of the hardpoints vs the 3A gives it no advantages. If running the same build in both, I thought the arm turning would be slightly more advantageous. You have a point though.

Such a frustration with commando equiped to hunt the lights mechs with streaks to notice that almost all light in match with ECM, and my commando with the same speed have to flee from it being useless vs something heavy in the same time.
Also I regret that bought as third commando 3A instread of 1D (blame the 90bit's review of all mechs). Could use such a nice build on 1D with 2 LL in right arm. Now mainly playing on 3A with single ERPPC. Doing 200-400dmg per match even on caustic with non-stop flank support firing ERPPC. Its able to hide every time between shoots but I can't get enought accuracy without zoom-mode to shoot red ct, limbs and etc. So this 200-400dmg kinda spreaded.
What about Com-1B - very nice mech with 3mpl, alot of pin-point backstabbing damage (250+ per normal game).

The Dual LL COM-3A - one of my all-time favourite 'mando loadouts; it trades some speed for far greater range. And frankly, it's better to have the LLs in both arms than in one - if you lose that right arm you still have a LL in the left.
