Here is an excerpt from a BT book that describes the Command Console
So I've never played it but from reading, having the highest Initiative score allows that player to take his/her turn after his/her opponent, which is an advantage allowing that player to respond to the actions of the opponent.
With MWO being a real-time shooter, Command Console could be setup to provide bonuses similar to how BAP provides bonuses. Another idea is tying certain abilities to it, such as requiring a Command Console to use the various Strikes along with TAG for example.
At any rate, it would be good to get a Command Chair post about what could be in store for the Command Console.

A 3 ton paperweight for your cockpit.
In all honesty, its function hasn't been enabled yet within this game. It is useless to equip right now.

It's a 500K c-bill credit that comes with your AS7-D-DC that allows you to buy the 400K ECM Suite you need.

A 3 ton extra seat for your friend that, currently, has no functionality and can't even be sat in because it's currently occupied by a grumpy cat.
It would be a commander's chair under normal circumstances.

When you find it, it's kinda like when you find ammo for an AC that you no longer have equipped. Free weight and crit slots with no down side once removed.

It would be super awesome if it allowed a 13th person on your team who would be automatically company commander, and could issue orders, etc. without having to take time away from piloting.
I have no idea how that could be implemented (probably not even possible) but it would be sweet.

Ugg, please no. I had the "honor" of dropping with one of these "PUG commanders" already. Taking command and directing a battle is a good thing... but using those annoying overlay command hieroglyphs does not help the team if you place them directly over a close range brawl effectively covering the whole radar overview for everyone on your team.
Even after multiple messages ingame in teamchat that he/she should stop obstructing everyones overview by placing the icons directly over the arrows he wouldnt stop (and everytime something moved, then he/she would also move the icon correspondingly. The only way that stopped was after quite a few of his teammates TKed him and effectively removed his/her possibility of using the command function.
Having someone on the team that can only do that does not seem helpful in the current implementation of the tactical icons overlay. If the icons were translucent, then maybe... but that seems a very boring way to play round after round of MWO to me.

I was thinking about 12 person teams, where having a dedicated drop commander would be a HUGE benefit. I don't imagine many people would waste their time in a small group just commanding, and not playing.
It sounds like you had a griefer on your team, who was just doing it to mess with people. I've played in a number of games where someone has taken command and given a useful order that won the game. I wouldn't care if they even turned it off for 2-4 person groups, it would really change the 12 person teams.

I think every command console comes with its own Stig.
Some say he gets confused when he sees an Atlas that is not faster than 64kph. And if he says his own name three times in a mirror the command console suddenly gets teleported to the Bermuda Triangle on Terra.
