No one likes Misery? If you like assault mechs, this thing is a beast once elited!

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...1dca4b04c88216d

Otherwise, an Ilya.

(ignore torso armor values, I forgot to adjust them on my saved smurfy)

I really was tempted to buy a Misery while it was on sale but then I remembered my promise not to give PGI anymore money until CW.

Time to move into heavy caregory. Ilya is the best all-rounder hero mech. Currently only mech in game that can take 3 heavy ballistic weapons onboard.

I just bought one. It's a beast (though I run 2PPCs and 3ML) It's already a beast and I'm halfway through elite.

At some point I want an Orion Stormcrow and or Nova. Should I wait?

Don't wait then and get a Protector and 2 other Orion to elite them. It's an awesome mech on the fine line of heavy assault, can be slower or faster and have different weapon setup. It's my mech with most drop. it's easier to earn cbill with heavier mech because it's easier to deal damage and take damage. After the hbk and light you will feel slow but youll get used to it and dont forget as you elite them they get a 2x boost to their basic stats. Id advise you to remove the gauss and add 2 ac5 instead, easier to use and crazy pounder. 2 streak srm2 to scare lights so you can put some ac5 shell in their backs and 3 medL when they decide to hand around you.

Before you ever buy a Protector, first watch this video 3 times!

LOL!

That's just our Dear Mack, he means no harm! He trashes that bathtub bellied Mech endlessly, but near the end, has an above average match and gives it props for what it can do well.

Google Video "Mack" and "Gankenstein" for pure comedy and melting enemy mechs! ;)

I am now an Oxide Owner, my plan is to win Cbills and buy an Orion. If I like it I buy the protector.

Ilya is a very popular mech from what I see, but does it really perform that much better then Jagers? From what I see, both have wide side torsos, Ilya has 5 tons working for it but much lower placed weapons. Can anyone confirm how they compete on the battlefield?

Ilyas are very effective on the battlefield. Triple UAC is my personal favorite build. It's a good ambusher, and has a bit better protection than the Jager. Use it as an ambusher. People don't react well when blindly turning a corner and getting a hail of shells in their face. Oh, and it's currently 50% off.

Though I have to say, if you like Victors, the Dragonslayer is loads of fun.

True, but does it do it more successfull then a jager that can also load 3 uacs?

A bit worse, given one is torso mounted... but that 30% C-Bill bonus can't be beat for 3 ballistics! Firebrand only has two slots...

As a ridge humper no - Jagers do that better - as an ambusher it does better as it is tougher (even if ever so slightly)
A 3UAC Jager with the same engine (I use the 280xl Ilya came with for both Ilya and my Jagers) has to give up a bit more in either armor, ammo, or backup weapons.

"2 AC/5 and a PPC, XL255. A nice "earning" mech for me. " Love that load out!

Be prepared to get bashed for this layout however, many don't like the way of the poptart. :)

There are a bunch of 'meta' ways to play the Shad, I think Victor Morson has them all in a thread or two. Up to you if you like poptarting or not, as there are many more ways to play.

Anyone who bashes you for doing what works can be safely ignored.

Agreed. :D Just saying the rage of people who can't play around meta mechs will be heard from around the Inner Sphere universe. :(
