Okay. So let me be blunt here. Assault mode is, Broken. Every single dang game you cant NOT hear 'base is being captured' or 'enemy base is being captured' and nearly every game you have someone who compleatly disregards the fight, and just runs to the base. so when 11 members are your team are dead, a totaly undamaged Atlas is sitting on the base, then gets ripped to bits slowly and painfully.

I like to call those people, Captards. and they are frankly ruining the game mode. The point of the game is Mech's fighting. Not running to the base and captureing it.

Now i know peole do it to draw teams away, but lets be fair. when dose that really work? a smart team will just push in. Kill the bulk of the enemy team, and then make it back to there base to kill the capper with more then enough time to spare.

So i propose a simple fix. sevral really.

1: Phil from NGNG proposed this, but if the mech captureing the base is shot, the amount captured refills. This would remove the problem. very well in fact.

2: if a base is being captured, and the captureing mech/Mech's leave the base area. the capture rate begins to refill. this would keep the capture feel, but make it harder for players to abuse captureing.

3: (this one is my idea) Require a number of Mech's destroyed, BEFORE the base can be captured at all. an example would be that 9 mech's need to be destroyed before the enemy base can be captured.

Now let me be frank here, I dont dislike assault mode. I dislike how people are abuseing it. when PGI took the turrets out, it broke the game mode. and now it needs to be fixed. would it be hard? no. honestly any one of these suggestions would be very easy. I love this game, i'll continue playing it no matter what, but when 1 of 3 quick play modes is broken, it makes almost every other game you play makes players like me, who play for the action, want to pull there hair out.

I agree that this game mode feels broken.

Even so its possible to make the argument the other way arround.
Its the objective to take the enemy base and most people ignore the fact because they want fun in the fight even in situations where capping together would have won the game.

What is a gamemode worth if the objective is ignored completely?
Sure the suggested changes might have a positive impact on the overall game expirience since it might reduce frustration.
Still changing the rules so the objective is even less worth to take and basicly create a second "Skirmish" doesnt solve the problem imho. It would be almost equal to removing one of both gamemodes which is much easier when counting the development costs ;-P

Also i have to agree that a game, which allows two armies just run to the enemy base and have a 50% chance to never meet and fight and the game ending without a shoot fired can only be called boring.

Still the turrets had a different problem when i recall it properly.
The loosing team tended to turtle inside the own base.
Often time the advantage of the superior team was not big enough to kill the remaining enemys while getting shot by the turrets. This forced the decision between taking a draw and wait 10 minutes or invading and loosing.
Both options where frustrating since there was no reward for getting an advantage in the first place.

Still i think there are some more options to consider.
Making it easier to defend without giving the defender a huge advatage.

4) place some kind of sensor towers on the map that dont provide exact information but a rough idea where the enemy main force is. Defenders would be able engage them instad of running in the middel of the map blindly. (maybe some kind of seismic sensors)

5) in addition make sure assault lance starts in the middle dropzone so it can freely choose its path instead of beeing forced to take the shortest

Sure i cannot prove they would fix the game.
The last resort is always to take the learning and replace it by somethign completely different ;-P

My brutal opinion is:
It would do the game more good than bad removing this gamemode.
Players who vote assualt vote it because they treat it as "the other skirmish" anyways, imho.
The good thing is. It doesnt feels that bad that i would consider stoping to play mwo ^^ it just a reason to flame ^^
