Standard cooling tower build: ("ghost heat!.. what is that?")
8Q
7 meds, 47 single heat sink+ cold shots for more awesomeness in thera-therma with alpha.

I think this would be a better build for it.

But that's just me.

I kinda like this build for my 9M, very manageable heat, nimble, good long range firepower, devastating at 100-200 meters.

My 8Q comes in two flavors. Currently this is what I am running,

It's a long range sniper with the ability to brawl. In a city fight standard Llasers would be preferable. Ghost heat isn't too bad but I run the ERlarge's on two chanels and the Meds on a third.

Roasty

8Q. Current build I'm running around in. You stay in the back and snipe people with your ppcs. Better have some firing discipline with this though. And always move to another position to avoid being cornered. Use those medium lasers and ppcs to stave off those heretical meta users, and the ERPPCs to burn the heathens from afar.

I played this game about a year ago but had to stop playing because my computer couldn't handle it. Since returning I've had the "joy" of dealing with past me's "brilliant" loadouts. For some reason I was obsessed with lasers back then so I got an Awsome 8Q and strapped it with 4 large lasers, a bunch of double heat sinks, an std 300 motor and an ams.

AWS-8Q

It works well as a jack of all trades. I was probably figuring at the time that I was a noob and so I wanted a noob friendly build. Large lasers are easy to use and are pretty versatile. The great cooling efficiency helps counter my lack of weapon management skills. I do pretty well with this build now but it's getting a little boring to use. It is what it is.

Sorry if this is off topic but you guys sound like Awesome pros and I need your awesome advice!

Why are Awesomes so awesome? On the MWO battlefield and in lore?

I'm thinking about eliting the Awesome just because I heard it was one of the hardest mechs to pilot and not to many people use them compared to the other assaults of which I have no interest in

Can they take a beating?

I've always wanted an 8Q

In the Lore, the Awesome was a tough, rugged, old assault that packed a punch that everyone feared. They also look rather cool - big, hulking, military things - and have an amusing name.

In MWO, they are hard to play for a few reasons:

1) No ballistics. Sadly, the game heavily favors ballistics, and Awesomes lack them.

2) No high-mounted weapon points: Stalkers have these, as do some other mechs, and they let you peak out from behind cover, take a shot, and retreat while still keeping most of your mech behind a rock.

3) Mediocre hitboxes: The Awesome is big and flat and thus easy to hit, unlike say... the Stalker, which presents a very small front profile. This means the Stalker would be harder to hit and harder to focus down a given part of the mech, such as the center torso.

3) Ghost Heat; Ghost heat punishes energy mechs. What is the Awesome.. an energy heavy mech.

4) No jump jets. Jump jets are very powerful, but the Awesome does not have them.

That being said, many of the problems listed are not unique to the chassis, and one should play to the mech's strengths.

1) Decent speed for an assault: It's not the fastest, but Awesome is not a total slug, either.

2) Big, movable arms: The Awesome has large arms that can take some hits for you and you can sweep them sideways to track fast moving targets - something a Stalker cannot do.

Good luck!
