Hi all,

I've messed with the FOV before to try and 'sit back further in the mech' so I could see my cockpit around me. I like the immersion aspect.

I do NOT, however, like the feeling that I'm in a fishbowl when I do so...gives me a headache.

Is there a process by which you can increase you FOV value without this mildly nauseating effect?

I bet with a curved screen the effect would be reduced... but beyond that nothing, no good way to place a concave 3-D perspective on a flat surface.

Try turning back your fov in increments until you lose the effect

Pretty much as Kharn described. What you've done is push the FOV to an unnatural degree. I have mine set at 90, and the distortion is only barely visible at the extremities of my screen, and only if i place a 'Mech right on the outside edge of my vision, and the worst that happens is said 'Mech gets a touch wider.

Also, the 90 FOV puts the entirety of the Cockpit in view, such that if you freelook all the way to the sides, you can only barely see the flat textureless area behind the pilot.

At a guess, I'd say you pushed yours up well past 100.

Do you still configure the FOV in the config file?

No.

You just have to tinker with the cl_fov value until you find one that doesn't nauseate you.

Get 3 monitors. Enjoy massively extended field of view without the fishbowl effect.

Got it, thanks. I tried setting the FOV pretty low (75-90) and the effect still bothered me. Returned to the regular view...maybe one day I'll get that third monitor :D

I've found that 79 seems to be optimal for me.
