The day of the week and time of day that you play makes a huge difference. I usually play during the week and between the hours of 9am and 2pm EST. I can't express in words how different my games are then when compared to the weekend. It SUCKS to play on the weekend. People camp, assault mechs are even more rampant, and the meta builds are everywhere. It's just not fun at all. From here until 3-3-3-3 drops, I'm not going to touch the game on the weekends.
Why would people play this game if THIS is what it's like when most people can play? It's awful, and it's certainly not Battletech...

Just play conquest. The mech mix is much better there - and you can't get away with camping much. I rarely play anything else.

Amen Brother....the "organized" game on the weekends is pretty boring. The blob tactics slow the game down and make trying anything other than joining the blob complete suicide. Try doing a flanking move when the rest of the company has settled into a camping spot. You get ***** by 3-4 guys who are bored with playing pop-and-potshoot. The focus on skirmish makes playing on the weekend a waste of time. The only reason I play then is if they offer free stuff and then I only play long enough to get the goodies.

Yeah camping appears to happen so much more in skirmish and assault. And better yet in conquest you can see when the enemy is somewhere when they are capping a point and depending on how fast it is going down you can estimate just how many enemies there are there.

Something I've noticed about playing at night maybe 8 o'clock PST there seem to be more premades. At least I think there are I see many lances that are all the same faction so i just assume its a premade. On weekends I feel like there are more pugs out there.
Also see a lot more champion trial mechs on the weekends then I do during the week so i guess more new players are on during the weekends.

So true, the game goes into easy mode outside of prime time, fewer pre-mades, my ping is better, fewer arti strikes. fewer assaults, it is just a more laided back fun time to game.

The weight of some teams distorts how the game handles, certainly, and more than a couple of pop-tarts is tedious.
I don't know if I'd go so far as to call forming and holding a front line "camping," though — especially on woefully outdated maps like River City, Frozen City and Forest Colony, where there are so few choices for positions.

Complete agreement. Weekends are balls.

I love being somewhere in the middle of the ELO spectrum (I assume). Loadouts are pretty varied and you see most of everything, bar SRMs/SmallLas/Pulses. Also, just for Antarus, I mostly run a standard 3xUAC5 IM.

Yup, I have been saying this for a long time. The time of day and day itself dictate the kind of player base you are going to get online. Homework/Bedtime during the week usually prevent certain types of players from being online that turn up on the weekends for example. The level of meta-saturation and team play also vary widely from time zone to time zone. This goes for both 4 man teams and solo players. You will usually see more mature 4 man teams during the week in the evenings on specific days and "younger" teams on the weekend. Like any generalization there are always exceptions to the rule though.
