200 Ping is enough to ruin a game.

Guess what the average ping is from AUS to NA servers?!

Come on, if Tribes can host a frikken server in AUS for 60 ping so can PGI.

They have said that they will branch out to other regions, and for a few years when i lived with my parents who had *shudder* Dodo internet, which had terrible routing issues at the time often causing ping of 200MS interstate i have no problem compensating for the lag. 200MS is enought to notice but not enough to ruin a game, getting over 400MS is what will kill you.

Some games deal with it better than others. In Raven Shield, 200 ping was unplayable. In Wolfteam, 200 ping was enough to **** everyone else off because you'd get kills from beyond the grave because your shots didn't register until after you were dead. In tanks, 200ms ping makes damn near impossible to hit a scout, or any kind of snap shot because the shots fly sideways out of the barrel.

I like to think Aussie gamers are the most hardcore out there simply because our reaction times have to be ludicrous simply to have a fair fight (And I'm one jittery good player in matches where the ping is nil-70)

What do you recommend dev folks?

Do we in the land of Oz sign up for the NA servers as we end up doing with all the other MMOs?

Is there a business plan including Asian servers NOT based in China?(I ask this because China requires a 'co-development deal' in which a Chinese company 'owns' MWO in China and the servers are locked to Chinese IP addresses only)

Should we buy a Foundation Pack or not?

If we do set up an account would we be able to switch it to an Asia/Australia server if one is ever established?

Why China? The devs should base their Asian/Oceanic in either Aus or say Singapore! Singapore is a good central location with good infrastructure and uses English as a working medium :D

And right now, Singapore is undergoing an upgrade to fiber optic networks!

As others have stated - servers located in SEA are no good for us due to how our internet traffic is routed

As much as I would love local servers I doubt the players base in OZ would be significant enough for it to be a worthwhile investment for the company

OH god I hope they have AUS/NZ Servers.... However I do remember playing MW3 on dial up so, i can only imagine how bad lag will be. It would be nice if internode hosted servers or something.... hell id switch ISP to anyone who did....

If they do have AU servers, odds are they'd be on the east coast AU, probably Sydney (best routing for population density that also caters for NZ).

If they go Singapore then, much like with SC2 and D3, I'll stick with the US West.

WOT is about 250-300ms ping and is very playable. I am hoping because mechs are not twitch gameplay like a FPS this should be fine for us Aussies too.

League of Legends gets about 190 pings somehow maybe the server is closer and is fine for me also.

Australian servers are essential.

270ms to America or 200ms to SEA are both undesirable.

Yeah, I get about the same ping for WoT on NA servers. More like 350-400 on EU servers, and even then its still easily playable once you learn to take the movement lag into account.
Hopefully it will be the same story for MWO

You know, I actually own server hardware myself... If PGI were to 'rent' the server space and bandwidth for a (Very reasonable!) cost, I could HOST an AUS/nz server :D

As long as the ping is around 200, it's fine.. Australian's are used to have that ping from online games such as WoW and WoT.

I will stick with NA servers even if servers become available in europe. Most of my greatest online gaming's been done when logged in over the pond! :D

And welcome aboard my friend... ^_^

Yup.. on a good day with TPG I will get 250 to 300ms for WoT servers in NA. I am in the process of moving to iiNet though for more than one reason.. but one reason is I am hoping for a faster and more stable connection..

I've played MW:LL on NA servers and it's not all bad... it's really going to come down to Piranha's network code.. this isn't really twitch gaming with headshots and backstabs.. so I'm hoping that even with a 200 to 250ms connection, things will still be playable.

Still want Aussie servers of course (Tribes: Ascend has Aussie servers!)... but for now just hope NA servers will be good enough.

I was really interested in the Founders packs, but this question is what's holding me back... it's not so much the ping which we all assume will be 200 -250, it's whether the gameplay will make this a bit issue. Hit prediction and that sort of stuff. In WOT it's not too bad because you're driving a heavy slow tank, but as one of the earlier posters commented it makes it hard to hit scouts...

The big make or break for this game for me, is whether I'll be missing my shots because of ping rather than skill. It's no fun fighting against the technology rather than the other players and as far as I can see it the only way we'll know is to actually play.
