External DHS are 1.4 instead of 2.0 because otherwise a Jenner could core an Atlas in 3 seconds.

MGs can't be buffed any more because a 6 MG Spider would have devastating effects to the back of an Atlas.

But the new Hero 'mech can have 4 MG + 4 ML no problem?

Could someone from PGI explain this please?

(Please note: The Ember looks like a fine 'mech - it looks great and the load-out options will give the Jenner a run for its money as top dog among the Lights. I'm not complaining about the Hero).

Edit: added link to the announcement of the Ember Hero 'mech.

Communication from PGI? What?

They can't even decide if they like a silly user.cfg change to remove your cockpit.

How do you expect them to come up with a cohesive message regarding what is overpowered and what isn't?

PGI Logic™

Whoever is in charge of weapon / equipment balance ( I suspect paul, but idk if he still is in that position) is clueless.

Hence why more than half of the equipment / weapons in this game I would consider non-funcitonal, "so bad, it stinks", or just boneheaded implementation that completely deviated from Canon purpose / action (ECM).

Or an obvious money grab - so why not give a hero mech 4 ml and 4 mg's.
better yet during the pop tart meta release a 90 ton mech with jump jets, energy and ballistic slots.
or alter auto cannon flight speeds to make the Gauss equipped hero hunchback more viable.

Yes PGI makes some ???? choices but they do know oh to exploit there system to make some cash.

nothing to see here... move along.....

I was waiting for the obligatory "HERO mech is an OP MONEY GRAB" post to appear somewhere, just like with EVERY other hero, and each time has been proven false.

Carry on.

It does. (Link to Russ' Tweet "People are going to love the Firestarter mech. The hero version has 4 Ballistic and 4 energy hard points and JJ").

The CB variants will have one with 4 energy, 2 ballistic, and ECM.

It's the new top dog.

Yeah, pretty much.

It even has me thinking of switching rides... And you know I've been a die-hard Commando pilot since closed beta...

Edit: This thing will be superior to the Commando in every aspect but raw speed, and superior to the Jenner in every aspect but missile capability. The ECM variant will blow the SDR-5D and COM-2D out of the water easily.

Frankly, I can't see that it has a downside at all.

So, Jenner max speed - check. JJs that are currently stupid broken - check. 4 Energy and 4 Ballistic hard points - check. Using the Jenner as a template, you can run a 300xl, ES, FF, 2 JJs, 4 Mds, 4 Mgs w/ 1 ton of ammo, and 13 DHSs. Not bad at all.

You bring up the Commando and that is kind of funny. For 10 extra tons, you get the Death Knell with more armor, JJs, and 4 MGs but no loss in speed or functionality. Granted, the DK isn't anything to write home about. But, the most energy slots that the Mando has is 3 so this is basically a jump capable Mando 1B with more armor, an extra laser, and 4 MGs instead of a missile slot.

To make matters even worse, my MC balance stands at exactly 2,625 MC.

It's looking bleak for my Commandos...

I will admit there is one thing that will really scare me away from purchasing this no matter how cheap they price it.

The Oxide was hit with a hardpoint nerf shortly after release. I am concerned the Ember will get hit with the same treatment.

How do you think that I feel? Since Beta opened, it was me in my CDA-2A trying to kill Jenners with the same speed, agility and JJs. Now, it'll be me trying to do the same against equally fast and agile Firestarters with ECM and more weapons. Would really love for PGI to stop ******* the mechs that are already in game. Reducing modules to 1 isn't going to help.

The Oxide nerf was before release. Also, nerfing the Ember might have issues seeing how most stock Firestarters come with 7-8 weapons...

Here is something that is intriguing, though. The HERO gets the same engine cap as the Jenner. That doesn't mean, necessarily, that the rest of the variants will have the same speed. And, if they introduce one that has ECM, they could easily handicap its engine to be much slower turning it into a humanoid ECM Raven 2X/4X.
