Had a match the other day. My team was all dead but there was one friendly left at the starting point. I typed that the last player was disco. A teammate tried calling out the grid location (which was wrong because it defaults to the middle of the map unless a player moves). All of a sudden, he started moving! The player got a phone call and didn't realize he was in a match (must have been minimized). He apologized to our team and thankfully, no one bit his head off. It didn't take long for the enemies to chew him up, sadly. Could have been a great story if we won!

well that's afk, which is exactly what the rule i quoted in the OP talks about.
I am talking about a mech that says "DISCONNECTED" in the Scores table.

If someone is discoed, then the position shown on the minimap inside is usually just the center of the map anyways.

The mini map glitches out on purpose. However, if you have F9 up and running, it gives the actual grid coordinates (POS). Give an 8 digit grid, such as 1587 1006, a start point on Caustic, and they can walk right up to it by following the numbers, like an old school army PLGR.

And when they fix it so that a disco can come back?? Be a great thing to have people trained to call out positions of discos.

In my opinion, all this is just another reason not to play Skirmish. It's sucks, but it's not all that common. Not every match has a disco, not all of them stop a game from ending, and not all of them are hard to find. So just suck it up and move on.

When / if they ever manage to implement that feature, then we can stop calling out grid coordinates. In the meantime, we should be able to find 'em and kill them, with intel provided by their teammates, so that we can ALL get our mechs back sooner for the next match.

I tend to fall in the "if it says Disconnected, rat them out" theory. If the game knows they aren't connected, then there's no foul in calling them out because there's no way they can come back in and have an impact on the game.

if they are DCed, powered down, facing a wall, and the last person left at the end of a skirmish, they are by definition griefing the other 11 or so people that have their mechs held in the match because they want to preserve their k/d ratio or just plain grief.

they deserve to be called out by their team until they fix it so DC players dont hold the match up.

Powered down facing a wall is them trying to maintain a K/D ratio. It happens.

The Disconnected is a bug from PGI...matches used to count a DC as "dead." For some reason, it doesn't now. A disconnected person can't magically reconnect. I have NO problem giving coords for that 'mech when everyone else is dead.

This. Press F9, post coordinates. The mini-map you're spectating is almost always wrong.

I don't reveal locations of shut down mechs. If that's how they wanna play, that's fine.

If a player is disconnected...they are no longer there. They're gone. Their empty, un-pilotable mech is delaying a game. I will happily reveal the location, because our team has already lost, and the game code that registers such is broken.

If there's on a mech on the screen, then I'm shooting it.

I have had a mech that was touted as 'AFK' or 'DISCO' revive suddenly on me once I start firing. Some people just wanna farm matches by sitting an Atlas on a base, I guess.

Or, the pilot got talking to his wife and didn't realize the game had been going on for awhile. That happened to me once. Wasn't paying attention until I heard the explosions. Turned back around, slammed the throttle and killed the poor light with my T-bolt before he knew what hit him.

I've even considered trying it as a purposeful tactic... but I like actually playing the game to much.

Unless you hit F9 and look at that ACTUAL coords.

powered down, facing a wall, and the last person left at the end of a skirmish,

Or they are trying to break an LRM lock and are really happy that as soon as they hit the power down button everybody immediately called out their exact position, even though they would have still been in a prime position to win the match after restarting in 5 seconds had thieir position not been prematurely disclosed by idoits w/ zero patience.

See above scenario (which I see repeated numerous times every night) for why PGI and I both apparently have a different definition of griefing than you do.

Yes, players deserve to be punished for fighting until the end just because the rest of their team is a bunch of mindless meta humpers who`s meds apparenty run out as soon as they die.... all in the name of "my fun is more important than your fun becasue I like me and don`t care about you" :D

DC? Yes, they are most certainly fair game..... But calling out the position of an active player, regardless of what he is doing, reeks of immaturity, impatience, and entitlement ("I want MY mech back already, give it to me you troll"), and is often highly detrimental to gameplay. Hell , I`d wager he main reason we don`t see lights owning the last 4 or 5 mechs on a regular basis anymore is that as soon as they`re LMS the entire team feels they have the right to end thir game NOW, not ever allowing them to even attempt such epic runs. Much less pull them off...

I`ve seen ECM spiders reposition themselves FIFTEEN TIMES in 5 minutes, and get called out each and every time they were just about to strike and maybe take out that damn D-DC. If the people typing were physicall sitting next to me, I very probably would have smacked them clear into Community Warfare for being so stupid (on that note, I really miss LAN parties)... and then uninstalled the game from their machines and scripted up a poliicy disallowing them from ever reinstalling it.

TLDR: IMO people that call out the position of an ACTIVE player need to be banned, permanently and instantly.

Just another reason why so many people are unhappy with the glacial response to in game issues. I understand that the fan boys will defend anything that Dev does but some of these things really need to be resolved sooner rather then whenever they get around to it.

Powered down mech trying for the cap win, fine.

Disco been gone since the beginning in a stomp and last one alive, co-ordinates are posted asap. I don't see how this is even a debate.

By all means, call out the x-y coords of your discos when it's clear you won't win. One little wrinkle on the conquest side of things - because the game sees your disco as still being viable, if you're leading on cap points your team may still win. I've been on the plus side of this once now, and nearly lost to the same thing.

If disconnected mechs are the last mech on the team, it counts as a loss without having to find and destroy it first, so killing it isn't going to end the match any sooner.

Unfortunately, this isn't true. It is intended to work that way but often disconnects that happen in match result in a mech that walks into a corner or wall and humps that keeping the game going even after the rest of the team is dead, with a nice red "disconnect" by their name.

I say give 'em up. Nothing lost by doing it and certainly time gained.

Last man standing in an assault or skrimish is called a disconnect by the game? Coordinates broadcast, normally like "GG, disco @ xxxx.x, yyyy.y". How is this a question? This is a bug PGI needs to fix.

Powered down or apparently AFK gets a couple internal coms first (i.e. status screen says they're alive, not moving in wide open terrain). If they respond, I stay silent.

Clearly hiding: silent.

Conquest, well it depends on the points on the board.
