I think it would be neat / and or useful to be able to 'crate' a mech that I don't plan on using now / for a while.
You can pay a fee, and the mech would be boxed up and moved into long term storage, freeing up the mechbay it was in. A mech in storage can be viewed, but its loadout cannot be modified in any way. A mech can't be uncrated unless you have an empty mechbay.
I know we all have some mechs sitting in our bays that we have no real intention of ever playing, but they either have some sentimental value, or perhaps they are a founder mech / phoenix prime, and cannot be sold?

'Mechs are not disassembled for transport or storage. It is part of the lore that once a 'Mech has been completely assembled, there are few justifications for taking it apart, all of which involve immediate reassembly. For one thing 'Mechs have artificial muscles that sometimes need to be mounted with a certain twist. Installing them takes time, so limbs are not simply plug and play. Omnimech pods are actually parts of limbs or torsos and not the whole sections. Warehousing 'Mechs that are not waiting to be shipped from the manufacturer to the customer is extremely rare. They are simply too valuable as war material to mothball. There are few exceptions to this, none of which are active practices in the current time line.
Besides PGI would probably charge more in MC to mothball a 'Mech than it would for a new 'Mechbay.

Interesting, I wasn't expecting a lore counter to this.

I wish there were a way to hide mechs instead. I certainly don't want to have to look at my locusts.
