A visual cue for weapon readiness would greatly improve the charge up mechanic. We already have one for missle lock on, why not gauss readiness? Perhaps a green triangle?

Take a look. Notice the Six (three on each side) Square blocks? Those are your weapon group statuses. (IE: all weapons in weapon group one are on the top left box, If you fire them all, They are ALL reloading, so the block turns red.)
When you have a gauss Rifle in one of those groups, and you hold down the button, It will turn green when ready to fire.
Edit: just Tested this with my GaussFract.
The Box will turn Orange while charging, Then Green when ready to fire.
Once discharged it will turn red while reloading, and Yellow when done.
