So been over a month, really enjoying the game. Although I do play on Alt account more because I screwed this one up in my initial excitement. Hold your hand up if you did the same!
Anyway something occurred to me, the main driver for income now must be purchases of Mechs with MC's. Disclaimer: I don't have a problem with it, gotta pay for the game somehow. So no matter how fun a Mech is I do get a little bored with it and want to try something else. I think this is a especially acute condition if you have played the games prior to this as you have knowledge of all the great mechs and want to test drive em.
I for one am glad that the amount of other things I can buy with MC's is limited because I would have spent waaaaaaaaaaay to much by now.
Now I would like some other maps, and I do wonder if the cry engine would allow the creation of randomly generated maps or is the issue of distances preventative in that way. Looking ahead for years to come the limited number of maps will become a weakness.
After-all as we pilot spread across the innersphere fighting battles over unknown planets and their tasty resources we really wouldn't know them all by heart.
One other thing, I have noticed the in game abuse tends to peak over the fri-sat period, luckily not at me though, any thought as to why?
See you all on the field!

Glad to hear you are enjoying it, and I could've spent my Cadet bonus better....pushed through though since I had had this account since before the bonus and so didn't want a character wipe.
I don't think random maps would work due to the nature of the weapons, ie one side might wind up completely in the open and thus LRM fodder etc... More maps are needed and I hope they are sandbagging quite a few for CW.
As to the abuse, mom and dad are getting drunk, thus not watching what Junior's up to and he doesn't have school tomorrow morning.

I think the random map thing had been addressed previously by the devs. Basically they said so much work went into making a map that they can't imagine a random map providing a worth while experience. Not saying I agree with that, but this is what I remember the response being.
There are a lot of players that only have time to play on the weekends, so you will see the mix change up during these days. If you try playing at different times of the day though, you will see that the quality of opponents, and the play styles you encounter flux quite a bit even over the course of a day.

Interesting to hear about the maps, thanks.
I guess it makes sense in that it stays true to the table top games, heck there were only about 3 dozen official maps! although you could make terrain and use tape measures but every official tournament was on the fasa maps.
Yeah, I have been lucky to play a awful lot the past few weeks which is why I could see the spike on fri-sat, was just curious what others thought.
I must point out that random maps, well if one team got caught out I think that would be fine, even great! but thats just me!

The main issue with random map generation is that the server keeps its own version of the maps and ultimately is playing as the game master; deciding what really can and cannot happen. The server has digitized information of everything in a simplified form. And if you ever notice when shooting near pillars on tourmaline or the fallen ship on frozen city or through a gap between buildings where bullets stop on air? They "work hard" to fix and hash that down and on a random map it'd be too difficult. Also the lack of changing time of day during matches is because they baked in textures for shadows to make it easier on lower end computers. If time of day actively changed the shadows wouldn't make sense. Not that they do now anyway.
Honestly generic landscape things would be really good and useful. Very cost effective. I wouldn't mind an open field; thing is the other side wouldn't know it is one either. But we're not likely to get that. It makes me sad too.

You've been playing for only a month so I wouldn't assume you've noticed or know of this, but more maps are forthcoming. HPG was the latest map. Due to how much work is put into making these maps, and trying to balance them out somewhat, they are not released super-frequently.
I'd guess we're going to see a new map within the next 3 or 4 months hopefully.

Mainly, they are concerned about map quality. They are aiming to have a new map every 2 months but as of right now, they haven't leaked any info about upcoming maps yet so that may be on the back burner while they are making clan mechs.

No problem my friend, this community is quite helpful most of the time.
Here's to getting a new map soon, hopefully.
