The Highlander is seen as the top assault for it's ability to take damage, with all it's main armament on the right side of the mech.

...

and some considerable ability for the Victor to spread damage across it's body (unlike the HGN which more shields it's right with the left), you have 2 completely different machines.

I only really take issue with this point. I don't see how it is true. The DS is more lopsided than the HM. Both have 2 missile hardpoints in the LT (though the HM launchers have double the tubes), so let's throw those out for the left-right balance comparison.

HGN:
Right Arm: 2 ballistic
Left Arm: 3 energy

DS:
Right Arm: 2 ballistic
Right Torso: 2 energy
Left Arm: 1 energy

You have the Heavy Metal hard points used in your highlander example, only that isn't the Meta Tart highlander. :P

732 = 1 Ballistic RA and 3 Energy RT.
733 = 1 Ballistic RA and 2 Energy RT.
733C = 2 Ballistic RA and 2 Energy RT.
733P = 2 Energy RA and 2 Energy RT.
HM = 2 Ballistic RA.

All highlanders have the missiles in the Left Arm/Torso and ONLY the Heavy Metal has 3 Energy in the LA.

But there are a few other mechs that have this one sided firepower. Its nice to have a shield arm. :ph34r:

As pointed out by Asmro above, you used the Heavy Metal as your HGN example. My entire point was the Heavy Metal is laid out more like a standard Victor (Energy LA, Missile LT, Ballistic RA) whilst the Dragon Slayer is kitted like a standard Highlander (Missiles LT, Energy RT, Ballistic RA).

The Dragon Slayer replicates the better hardpoint layout and survivability of the Highlanders at a lighter tonnage, with better jumpjet weights and engine cap for the same effective firepower (albeit lower survivability due to XL engines, but then you become a stick if you lose that RT in a Highlander so balances out).

Lol at people saying the DS is the worst varaint... If you use it for it was designed for it is the best varaint, followed by the 9S. Dual ppc+ac20, max armor, 2JJ, xl350.

I didn't buy the fastest possible assault mech in the game to not have the fastest assault mech in the game. http://mwo.smurfy-ne...0b556a64227c779 Its far from ideal I made it this way for fun and still do quite well in it. Highlights of playing it are being where your not expected early match and playing bait letting a bunch of enemys see you clearly seperated and on your own unsupported in an assault like your a scrub free kill pilot then being nowhere to be found when they charge to your position.

Nice, XL400 leaves enought weight for decent firepower. I like streaks in your build, cuz big speed may face you with light mechs.
The variant of your build with streaks but 3LL instead others. Nice range and nice alfa 30+10, almost like my AC20+2LL (20+20) and better speed.

I just bought the DS... But it is not as good as other Victors IMHO because it can NOT mount an ac20. But I am still experimenting with it. I am thinking about trying an LRM-based build with ac5+erll... Maybe.

HGN can sure take a beating, but it was too slow for me (a medium pilot) ...and not an atlas for being that slow. :-)

The strenght of the Dragon Slayer is in very good convergence for 4 hardpoints close together and the ability to use one arm and one torso as a shield with a STD engine. This is a massive bonus to a mech's survivability. It really works best when built around these strenghts.

Just what might this be, as the orginal victor packed srm's ac20 and ml's with the jump jets it was clearly a brawler.

It was the Tarts that put the pop into Victors, hiding while the mediums and lights get to do the dangerous things

Well found something that seems to work ok for me.

I know a lot of people do not like the gauss now but they do ok for me. So I decided to up the speed with an XL360. Go tripple ERLL chained and a gauss with 4 tons of ammo. Obviously with JJ as well.

I like it so far. Cannot wait till I can get a couple variants to run so I can finish the mech tree on it.
