I was thinking a 6 SL 2 ML build myself. Gotta have something to outrange slow SSRM builds with, plus it gives a bit of extra punch if you lose your arms.
I was using the A variant with 4ML (Arm) and 4SL (Torso) as a heat-efficient pinpoint striker, using mediums at range and to open armour and the smalls to capitalise on alpha oppurtanities or when cooling down. Mind you I completely legged a Battlemaster but forgot I hit override whilst coring an atlas from the rear... I blew up.

I've been using 2ml in ct with 6sl. There's absolutely no way they're not going to nerf the firestarters - seriously.
Don't see why they would. They don't have hit registry invincibility like Spiders, or ECM or SSRMs. They are hard to kill, because most people don't think to shoot legs. But otherwise they are just given good hitbox design that allows you to tank damage with a little effort.
They are good in the same vein as the ShadowHawk... you have to work for it, but it rewards you when you do. And it helps that you can drive them more like a Medium.... only reason I do at all well in them.

FS9-S
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...a4231af6e2271b3
Bounce around with the mediums in the arms and dual AMS for protection.
When in close or drive by's cut lose with the chest mounted pulse lasers in opened locations for the kill.
FS9-H
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...33ec412668ed9c1
Ac5 is primary, 2 medium lasers are your secondary the 4 arm mounted medium lasers is your alpha "it's too good of a shot to pass up" Lean on the AC5 when you get hot.
FS9-E
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...a13b2bd50372021
Use the AC5 at all ranges, and when you get in close lean on it and the mguns to tear things apart. It' plays alot like a honey badger, once you sink your teeth in just keep going.

Don't you think you are a bit.... slow... with these builds?
Got some fights with embers in my jenner this week and I would say they are more or less even in an 1on1 - when they are at the same speed.
As soon as I got speed tweak (leveling the jenners atm) I had the advantage in circle fights and hit and runs. Seeing your firestarters not even breaking 100kph... I'd have doubts.

Eh, Jenners SSRMs are a pretty good hard counter to the overall effectiveness of the Ember. IMO, that Ember and FS9s in general are lukewarm against most other Lights because of the lack of SSRMs, ECM and borked Spider hit registry (and I am not complaining about any of the 3). Where they excel is coursing and bringing down bigger game. The are like the terriers of the MWO world. Bull baiting and such. But 1v1 against a Jenner, those SSRMs do a lot more damage than my MG. Can you win? Certainly, but it's more about the superior pilot, IMO at that point, than the superior mech.

Actually I run around with 2xSRM2/1xSRM4 which seems to be a better extra punch against bigger targets (who are my prey). Hitting lights with SRMs is a trick I haven't mastered yet, though.

very few people have, despite all the posturing I see on here. About the only time I have died to srms in a light was when I was shut down. And I am a crap light pilot.

I have also found the Ember less than ideal against other lights.
I prefer to stalk around the main fighting, firing off medium lasers from a safe distance until someone’s armor gets popped, then it’s blood in the water for my Machine Guns. I have gotten into this habit (please excuse the DOTA speak) of tower diving heavies and assaults with cored CTs and XL Torsos. Every time I do it, I go in believing I am going to die. Strangely enough, I’d say 75% of the time I get the kill and come away with minimal damage. Chaos seems to be the ally of the Firestarter.
I cannot speak highly enough of the Ember vs. bigger targets.

It's the distinct lack of torso pitch that impedes the FS9's effectiveness. It makes it harder to bring the torso weapons to bear. That's why I like the FS9-K so much, most of its firepower isn't hindered by the low torso pitch angle.

Yeh it doesn't handle like the spider - I prefer the ninja like twist and jumping of the spider, and if the deaths knell had jj it would probably be my fav... In the first 5 drops with each chassis, I don't see why there isn't more complaining about them. Good lord am I simultaneously glad and sad that none of them have ECM

Yeah, I agree. It really drives to me a lot like my Shad, and even twists off the damage the same. I almost always end up losing one or both arms before I get ignominiously legged, then double legged or cored when I get killed. I suck in pretty much any Light chassis, so I am jazzed to have one I can do well in!

I think the Ember is an instance where the Hero is the best hardpoint layout. Still trying to get in tune with the others. Only knock is that like the YLW, there isn't a lot of build diversity, the 4 Mlaser and 4 MG is just plainly superior to every other option.
