run whatever build you like if you're not bothered by win/loss nor being laughed at or flamed by other players.

you may the most fun in the world running 3xMG/3xSLas on an Ilya. But you're going to be happy doing next to no damage every game, losing most of the time, getting raged on by team mates because you are costing them the game and laughed at by opponents due to the build.

to be fair, the builds you have are OK. but that's just what they are, OK. they are not what people perceived as optimal builds cause there are builds that can do more damage more consistently. but if you're having fun, just keep running them

Op, I would love to drop with you. Your builds sound like a lot of fun, and you sound like a fun guy to drop with.

tonight ill be running 2xmg 1xflame 1xtag yenlo xl300 just to irritate those who watch :(

Deadlier is a Centurion AL with 4 flamers and SRM. Irritate the teammates, and outperform them!

I don't even think your getting comments from meta warriors because your not running meta mechs and they aren't suggesting meta builds. It seems more like your getting "advice" from a bunch of bads with absolutely no imagination. Quad ac5 is OK at best. Tripple uac5 is pretty classic but no where near as dominant as it was.

Dual ac10 is a fine build on the 4x or any mech really.
2x large laser + ac20 works just fine too. These are perfectly legit builds, nothing to be worried about.

The 2x is kind of tough to build effectively. I'd prefer the 1x but what I always say is as long as I have my ac20, things will be just fine.

I can say the same thing my catapults, they were not the norm, until the jester came out, my favorite mech was a cplt-c1 with ppc's medium lasers and srm6's :-P

Rock on!

Ok.... so i have been playing with these builds, and variations of them for a while now. My idea behind these mechs, are more of a shorter/medium range brawler type. AND fyi, my orginal builds on all these did not have endo-frame, which i have found opens up a decent amount of additional possibility and effectiveness.

These are my thoughts on them after playing cataphracts for a few hundred matches.. (almost all 4 to master slot) In some ways they are similar to my brawler HKB's, but definatly pack a bigger punch, and can take more damage.

With the Double XP weekend, i decided to load up my Cata 3D. I found a build that seems to work very well with it.

Ac-20, 2 LL, 2 ML, 250 STD, 2 JJ's. This mech gets around pretty well, and i have found the JJ's very useful in navigating certain maps, All but the hottest of maps, this mech just chugs. this mech shines around 150-500. Really enjoying it as my first real JJ mech, and i am finding them very useful.

My 2X, i have manipulated a bit, I added the endo, dropped a 260STD in, along with the AC-20+3 MPL, and dual streaks with BAP. It also has added heatsinks. This mech is a short range beast. 150-300 to pack it's hardest hits.. Light mechs are not happy coming across this thing especially when they realize it is not a PPC slow rate of fire mech, and then they realize there ECM is not working any more, and taking streaks, along with MPL leg shots, or a well times ac-20.. things are not good. This mech is best suited for Lance support. Get in with the thick of things, and just pack a wallop on what ever you can. It isn't the fastest mech, but can get around ok, and but the other side of the map is a long way off.

Over all i am finding these set ups really fun, and work pretty darn well. Has anyone tried anything similar?

I like my "frankenmech" Cataphracts.

I dusted off my 2X and ran it a few matches the other day. I ran 1LL, 2 ML's, 1 LB10X, and 2 SRM 4's. It did ok and was fun. I may try it with an AC20. I like the versatility of mixed builds.

your builds are too slow for me, but to each his own.

the 2x build looks like a good escort build for assaults. keep lights off the big guys. atlas + stalker pilots would like to have you with them for sure.

If you cut around the edges, you can fit in the same weapons with a STD295 engine. That thing is plenty scary. Another fun alternative is 2xLL+2xPPC, STD300.
