This poptart PPC/AC fix that all the wanna be "competitive" are running is straight up ruining the game I feel. I've been playing since the game was in the first steps of closed beta and have continually been playing ever since never giving up on the game. This is the first time I've been so discouraged by the game I'm playing less and less. These "meta" builds are ruining the core aspects of this game. Brawling and fighting with a role is nonexistent with all these long range builds. There is just no draw back to stacking all the pinpoint alpha weapons and it is now just ridiculous. The time to kill is just atrocious now days, a heavy mech should not turn a counter and be dead in under 3 seconds. There is no strategic disabling of weapons and components anymore. It is turning into a dang watered down FPS. You know its a problem when you see PPCs stacked on lights and every mech with and energy slot. The only mech that was designed for heavy PPC use was really the Awesome and those are a rare spawn these days.
I know there have been hundreds of suggestions put out there and many of them have plenty of merit. There needs to be some some kind of change and I'm not talking about lowering damage of weapon or raising heat. We need a new system integrated to shake things up such as the convergence system that everyone has harped on since beta. Here's a list of just a few systems that could help shift the balance from High Alpha builds and to more sustained builds which would in turn shift the game play. Any one of these would add a more in depth combat and maybe dissuade a single build applied to every mech. I have always felt a mech should have a well rounded build with a mix weapon types. The fact that these builds are as dangerous from far away as they are up close just shouldn't be happening.
Possible changes:
-Weight Limits - This is the single thing I want most in the game, this will somewhat stop whole teams of Highlanders Victors Cataphracts and Jagers and force people to play some smaller less alpha mechs, It is what I think will be the biggest change to the game. Sure there will be a lot of people crying that they are only assault pilots but sometimes we gotta take one for the team and this being such a team based game will be good for them.
-The upcoming NARC changes- This will help bring LRMS back into the mix and will be good ECM counter
-Buff Flamers - make flamers heat enemies up a lot faster this would provide a much needed form of CC
-Convergence - tons of threads going deep into the details that explain it better then I can
-Ballistic Aiming Recoil - there is a cd on ballistics but I feel if you are firing successively or pulling heavy maneuvers you should not have 100% perfect accuracy with ballistic shots.
-PPC charge (not like gauss, but hold to charge dmg such as if instant fire its 2.5dmg, a .5s charge would do 5dmg, 1s would do 8dmg, and 1.5s would do the full 10)
-Ghost heat removal - Although this won't help the current PPC heavy meta, this system cripples counter builds such as 4x large lasers or large LRM combos.
-Lower Ammo counts - I know I'm in the minority but I feel ballistics get way to much ammo which allows them to be primary weapons more then supplemental weapons.
-Slow Heavies and Assaults, Speed up mediums - Currently a lot of heavies are going as fast as mediums which should not be so commonplace
-Increase Chances of Ammo Explosions - This would make ammo more scary to carry and in turn make more people use CASE which in turn would shy people away from XLs in every mech possibly.
-Fix SRMS - One of the main weapon groups is so unreliable right now its almost painful to use in most cases
- Ballistic Weapon Explosion - If a gun is destroyed and has any ammo in it, the weapon should take the appropriate round size of dmg from the round loaded exploding
- Doubling Component Health - Someone had an interesting post a few weeks ago about this that states how it would encourage more disabling of mech components then just the CT kill race
- Change to Single Heatsinks - right now there is hardly any mech that benefits from Single Heatsinks, every mech you buy you pretty much have to tag an extra 1.5 mil cbills to the price currently
- Different armor types - Add different armor types that might provide variety in specific dmg resistance or even to allow your mech to become more tanky for weight sacrifice.
- Laser Tweaks - This one I am not sure on how but it is obvious pulses need some love. Regular lasers feels like they are in a good place currently. The only thing I might like see is a buff to small lasers to make them a good consideration for using last bits of tonnage.
- More Ballistic Dmg Dropoff - When a ballistic goes past its range the damage it does should more more nominal. They already have very generous ranges and should have a much steeper drop off when going past their designated ranges.
-Role Select - Have at the start of the match a list of roles such as brawler, sniper, fire support, tank, flanker, etc and everyone select one. Have bonuses given for playing the game inside that role such as doing rear damage being a flanker. Give each role a set bonus of say 10% boost to Cbills or xp, if more then one person chooses that role they split the bonus. So if 5 people in jagers choose fire support they each get a 2% bonus, while the solo cicada that choose flanker gets the full 10% boost to himself. This would promote people to expand to the lesser played roles. And by only getting bonuses for performing inside the roles task, a sniper would not be getting bonuses for a flanking role if he is still doing sniper damage head one from behind your front line. It would also be neat to see a designator for each role by people's names so if you saw a mech creeping around with the flanker tag you would know what he's doing instead of thinking he's some silly noob running away.
There are tons of other posts out there just like this but I had to blow off some steam and typing this up has helped. Anyone else have any other solid suggestions besides just a straight nerf or buff to one specific weapon? I'd love to hear input or arguments against any of my suggestions too. Thanks for your time fellas!
