Any Assault capable of mounting 2xAC20's will quickly kill what's left of the "real" brawlers. I hope PGI isn't as shortsighted to bring such a thing into the game.

So, last night on the NGNG stream Daeron confirmed that the art department is working on the Mauler. No date on it being released. My best guess is late this year, maybe early next. But then again, this technically isn't even confirmation that it will ever be playable in game.

Thoughts, opinions?

But they are working on the Mauler for this project, right?
Or they are talking about PGI guys working on the Mauler? (those are completely unrelated things)

BTW, amazing project! Looking forward for playing this game.

I don't have enough info to confirm or deny that. Supposedly more info is in NGNG's podcast from Wednesday, but I don't listen to the podcasts.

Do you mean NGNG guys are working on it or PGI (Alex/Dennis) are working on it?

The problem is there are only 2 available variants in the timeline. Assuming PGI is going to make it 3051. If it's still 3050 then that's only 1 available variant.

So it's extremely unlikely without some sort of time skip that we'll see the Mauler.

Now the Cyclops has 6 timeline available variants and would fill the same tonnage slot as the Mauler at 90 tons.

But you're forgetting we still have one empty tonnage slot and that's the 95 tonnage bracket with the best contender being the Banshee!

In response to this if you read Thomas's breakdown posts he's been listing the date year as 3051. So we would have two variants. However PGI has stated that likely PGI house made variants will be Hero Mechs. But who knows.

I've seen a few guys mention this, but when did they ever confirm two mechs a month coming out? I mean, I know that makes sense since they obviously have them made, but so would a lot of things. I never saw any announcements about firestarter AND wolverine or griffon coming out, anybody got the source.

Well for sure we know the Griffin is coming out this month because it was told to us that the Sabre buyers get them on Dec 17th and then the rest of us can get them in February and March. Since the Firestarter variants are listed in the mech lab and purchaseable for MC right now, it is also coming this month.

Only 1 available variant based on the timeline so most likely not.

here's some tools you can use to check your favorite mechs:

Surely we would want the 'Clanbusters' as a clan response pack:

Medium: Wyvern
Light: Hussar

+1 big Zeus fan here, but, speaking reasonably, I have to admit that on the battlefield Zeus can't offer anything what Battlemaster already wouldn't.
Except its sheer overwhelming beauty, of course:

So, let it be Mauler then, I'd bet on MAL-1R, MAL-3R + variant based on Daboku DCMS-MX90-D as MAL-1R prototype.

The Jäger can already mount two, so what is the difference? AC40 Jagers have not made other heavies obsolete, so why would an assault that can mount them do it?

Zeus is cool, but does it really offer anything new in the 80 ton line? And do we need another mech to make the Awesome even more obsolete? =/

Still tho, all my yes for the Mauler! (and maybe even Cyclops)

the single Facts like such assault can run easily without XL engine (one weakness less) it would probably carry extra weapons for backup aside the 2 med lasers as much some Jagers carry (better armed) and that lots of people will flock to the massive 40+ pinpoint dmg monster.

Edit: quick example you can mount a mech like the mauler with STD 300 (or just drop it to 275 if want to free 4 extra tons) 2x Ac/20 6 tons of ammo and 2x LL as backup , with the very same durability and speed as Highlanders..

There are tons of assault builds that give a 40+ alpha. It's not all that unusual. An assault should be better armed and armored - that's the whole point of them.

Better stock up on my ultra 5 ammo as a mauler with 4 of them is going to need a lot

The difference is that the jager is only 65 tons and can't really run much else. When you get into the 80-100 ton range you start being able to slot PPCs in without much trouble. Now you're looking at 50-60 pinpoint damage shots and we get into trouble.

There is a reason that every single assault PGI has released has its ballistics in the same component.
