Been looking to get a catapult for my next mech. I like the more long range style, yet still end up in some close combat situations. Heres my current build: http://mwo.smurfy-ne...bc737d2bae94b68
My play style: Like I said I like long range, but still need something for when ammo runs dry and ememy rushes in ect. Speed isnt a hude concern as long as its not under 50-60kph or so. So would that build be sufficent or should I look to a newbuild/different mech?
PS: Im new to mechwarrior, played some of the games way back when but not enough to know anything of what im doing.
Thanks.

It's not bad, depends on your play style. I would probably change out the twin medium pulses for a large or ER large laser to compliment the range of your lrms.
Definately add BAP.
Maybe even swap the lrm5s for streaks.
Also I believe you'd get more bang for your buck if you used ENDO instead of Ferro-Fibrous, IE you get more free tonnage because of the way MWO calculates things.
Speed is a concern of all Missile platforms cause the slow mechs are the ones that get picked off first.
I dont use AMS, I prefer to position myself behind cover and my teamates and use that tonnage for ammo.
Also with the little armour on your legs, lights will target them first.

I personally run just med lasers but that is personal preference. That build should serve you well though.

Start here, there are many good builds and discussion available.

Medium pulse lasers aren't really worth it. Endo > Ferro. TAG helps your missiles lock. Streaks are good anti lights weapons. Pack extra ammo.
Try this?

I reworked your chassis a bit. A few thing that already got pointed out:
- Endo-Steel over Ferro-Fibrous -> you get more tonnage out of it
- Your armor was distribution was way off. Never take armor off your CT or ST (if you run XL). Too much armor on your backside. Too low armor on your legs. I was even scared a bit by taking armor off your arms... those are your primary weapons.
- The real pain in the arse for an lrm boat are lights. One ECM light would easily shut you down. Therefore -> BAP
- 2 SSRM2 and a medium pulse should be enough to make a single light think about attacking you.
- TAG to tighten your missile grouping. Using Artemis will only give you a bonus to missile lock and group tightening if you have line of sight, so you might as well use a TAG for even more bonus AND to let you target enemies under ECM protection.
- AMS -> love it or hate it. I usually try to fit it in builds below the magical 100 kph barrier. I even carry it on some lights.

A lot of what's already been said is true and helpful but here's my two cents:
My little brother and I run as a spotter/missile platform duo (me in a Raven 3L with tag, extended sensor range, and the works). He runs a C4 that looks something like this: http://mwo.smurfy-ne...9555acb619d8c2a
2 medium lasers isn't great for self defense so usually I'll come running if he gets attacked. I can't overstate how much I love dropping as this pair. I'll spend the first half of the match just tagging guys and once the front lines collide, I'll run in and carry out a circle of death while he continues to rain on my target. To me, it's an ideal situation. If you can't find a group to spot for you like this, then consider some of the other posts more heavily as they are better for defending yourself from those pesky lights (like me!).
