I was having a nice afternoon gaming session until US primetime kicked in, and then all of a sudden I was playing skirmish matches only with much heavier team composition than before. I dealt with it for a while, and then I said, "screw it, I'll wait for a match," and started selecting "Conquest" only. All of a sudden matches were balanced, with lance compositions weighted toward the middle or bottom rather than the top. All of a sudden, people were using chat. I had such a good time that I decided that now was the time to start earning XP on my metal baby Death's Knell - and I still had a good time!

I think I'm going to buy two more Commandos and get them Elited in prep for weight limits. Then I think there's another medium in my future. ShadowHawk? Maybe. By the time I'm finished with the Commandos, I be the Griffin will be available for C-bills... :-)

A Shadowhaw + 4 SSRM + 2ML + 115KPH + JJ = win on conquest.

It's the nature of the skirmish beast. With no locations needing to be worried about, Lances can load up on their tonnage and not be handicapped.

thats a good idea and to be honest i wish you could take multiple game modes instead of just one (or basically just not skirmish).

Yup. I was against the inclusion of skirmish mode at first, but now I absolutely LOVE it. It draws a huge percentage of the metahumpers and assault mech-only types like moths to a flame, leaving the *real* game modes much more pleasant. The truly skilled players can still roll with meta even in those games, of course, but it cuts out most of the wannabes who can't do anything without their highlander crutch.

I would love to see a system where I could check more than one box for game modes. Conquest is my favorite, but assault is OK.

I was great, I got killed by all sorts of mechs last night. I even saw a few Trebuchets!!

I had such a nice time being able to stick my head out from behind corners I even busted out my old CN9-A SRM6 zombie and had a go, and I had a good time with that too. If they're aggressive enough with tonnage limits, this game is going to rock.

Just a point of interest... Assaults belong in any game mode we presently have. And Assault forces do exist throughout the game canon.

Of course they do! Assaults are important. They're just supposed to be fewer and further between because they're SO expensive to purchase and maintain. Take a look at the percentages listed for armed forces composition in the IS for 3050, I don't think you'll find things quite match up with what we have in skirmish matches.

I'm not anti-assault, I'm pro-assault... but that means they should evoke a moment of surprise and "Oh @#$%" because you're not used to seeing one around every corner.

No no, Just making sure. The problem with things is that the Balancing factor for Mech Ownership was deep sixed by gamers of the system. When we had R&R, I found that though I could get more done in my (F)Atlas I took home more money in a Centurion after R&R. THAT is the perk of Mediums over heavies, assaults and FAST lights. Maintainance was cost effective. But we can't have R&R... It was a tax. It was unfair. It was something I paid without thinking twice and I kept an Atlas at full repair drop to drop Even if it meant I broke even or lost a bit of money once in a while.
