This post is for all the fellow pilots who have ever been "swarmed" by light mechs in a game, while even in a heavy or even an assault mech armed to the teeth, and subsequently brought down by by them like a bunch of flies on a pile of shit. If your like me, your pissed cause, well, the jumpin-jack ******** took you down period!! Am I right??
Well, I got tired of it...so I sat down one night and vowed to find a counter to such pesky little ******. I discovered a few loop-holes while spectating the very mech types that were getting to be little thorns in my ass!! They like to target the big guys cause they know (or think) they are much too slow to counter even one light mech nippin at their toes. Round and round they go slowly chippin away at your massive armor as you mercilessly attempt to defend your honor, until you fall humiliatingly to your death...

Designed as a "fast-intercept" chassis, and named after the popular 4th of July "fireball launcher", this rig utilizes agility, speed and lock-on ability using rapid chain-fired, SSRM's x4 with the extra "punch" of SRM4+Artemis x2. Line this arsenal up in a single weapon group chain-fired, boost your mouse sensitivity up to keep up with the quick little targets and never take your finger off the "W" key and keep your target reticule directly on or just ahead of your target and let the gymnastic show begin!!
In addition to the maneuverability, speed and rapid fire abilities, Ive included in my build as modules, Improved Gyros, SSRM Range2 and SRM Range2.

This chassis alone is not designed for the novice pilot mind you, in order to fully appreciate and take advantage of this build, you gotta know your target...its capabilities and ultimately your own weaknesses. As we all are aware, CPLT's in general are prone to having their arms blown off regularly. As they are obviously easy targets to hit, and you need to be aware of any surrounding enemy contacts before you go in for the strike. And if your prey is out in the open, remember, if you go in...you will also be out in the open. So you need to watch a potential target from a distance...anticipate where they will scurry off to...or at least the general direction of such...then, utilize cover...like a snake in the grass to position yourself for the intercept.
Once you have achieved the element of surprise, the first thing the Spider or Commando (for example) pilot will see is a Catapult...they think, "aahh, lrms...ha! cant hurt me! Just gonna circle of death him no prob"...Thats where he will be mistaken! missile doors already open to eliminate any delay in missile fire...point and click...and never let go...let your fingers dance...jump over him as you perform a mid-air 180, zig...zag...he jumps...you jump, he zigs...you zag...all the while...your target reticule never leaves him, and your rapid fire never subsides until he falls. Light pilots wont expect this, and become disoriented, confused on what to do even. (Maybe they will know after reading this, but its OK, cause no matter what, this tactic is simply *** for tat, tough to beat!)

My friends, this tactic is tried and true...I can say this chassis is the "cat", and any light mech will be the mouse...and if your good enough, the "CAT" will always prevail!! Pun intended!

P.S. If anyone knows how to capture video of actual gameplay and be able to post it on the forums...let me know...I will show the "Roman Candle" in action!!

Taking an A1 kind of circumvents the desire to pilot an assault though, wouldn't you say?

Best combination imo is lasers and AC20 or UAC/5 or AC/5, as those will scare em quick.

But of course, the best idea is good positioning in the first place and making sure you have friendly cannon fodder available that may or may not assist you in defeating the squirrel.. and subsequently opening the window for the enemy main force the bring your team's demise..

Luckily for you, the light pilots you'll be eating will only be the one's who can't press R to find out you are actually a streak(mostly)cat, at least I hope so?

Excellent post!

Drop the SRM4 and you can pick on any mech.

The A1 Trollcat is built for large fish too, on chainfire they can't even shoot back!

User beware this is not a Solo Rambo Brawler, but as a giant support mech you can wreak havoc!

The SRM4's add more total damage and were added for that possible larger mech. Your build is asking for trouble though...one good shot to the right torso...ammo explosion bigtime dude!! That much ammo in one spot, even with CASE is gonna leave a crater!!

The Cat I was referring to in the above post was just thrown together with equipment I had in my mechbay. As far as your AC20 or UAC/5 or AC/5's, my rig is not for intimidation...as you say, "...will scare em quick." My build is like a wolf in "sheeps" clothing! They're dead before they realize what hit em! I dont need big guns to do that!

And from here forth the "Roman Candle" will be known as the "Glass Knees" because of it's horrendous, ammo stuffed, under armored legs that every light with more than two months experience will blow off, exploding the whole XL engine.

Definitely rework that.

Catapult side torso's are the safest spot on the mech. Pods and Legs go easy and CT is a joke to hit. I don't think I've died to a ammo explosion yet, typically CT, after I've destroyed a metric ton of stuff... if I die.

Reworked it.

Roman Candle

There was a little too much ammo anyhow. CT and Legs should always be empty in a catapult if possible, JJ mechs always get hit in the legs.

Normally I would (and I still might) recommend putting ammo in the head; on most 'mechs it's the safest spot as it's used first and very, very hard to core. The Catapult's large head might make this more of a concern than some, but just a thought to spread the ammo out a little more.

Definitely WAY more viable now though - esp. dog fighting lights, who notoriously like to go for the shins!

If the story of David and Goliath played out in MechWarrior, it would involve David repeatedly running circles around Goliath kicking him in the knee.

This has the same issue all "light hunter" builds do -- lights can simply outrun it despite the big engine. You basically count on bad pilots to try and fight you head on. What about bigger opponents, or anything with medium/long-range weapons?

That is what I chase in my A1, big slow mechs that struggle to reaim when being barraged with tiny little streak missiles. :) And I have enough missiles to pick em apart, and the heat efficiency to keep shooting.

It truly is an epic troll, not OP and I've been ear'd enough times. But just funny when the chat screen is full of rage and tears.

Edit; like in the match above, there was only one light mech. The A1 is not just anti-light.

No no no! Us lights never sweep legs on heavy/assault 'mechs first.

Honest :)

Although, if I did happen to see that build, I'd not go anywhere near it. Well, definitely not under 300m anyway. It would certainly be a great deterrent, but it's not fast enough to present much of an issue for competent pilots. Our Mlas still do pretty good damage out to 300m, your missiles do nothing.

I'm being rather negative here, so I'll go out on a positive. It would work hilariously well in a great many pug matches, especially if you dont stray from the main force.

High alpha and good aim is still the best way to kill lights.

If you don't have the aim, bring streaks. 3 is usually enough to deter a light mech. If you are swarmed by more than one you strayed too far from your team.

Here, this should scare the lights as well as the heavier mechs: http://mwo.smurfy-ne...7502104148f24c5

Hover around the battle at 250m, chainfiring lrms+streaks. Switch to streaks if they come too close, and to lrms if they back off.

The simple solution to fighting this build in my Spider is to stay out of your max range and smack you with my PPC, which is generally the way I deal with most enemy 'Mechs while piloting my Spider....

Remember, your enemies can see what weapons you're carrying as soon as they've successfully locked on to you. Don't let them use that to their advantage. You should be trying to stay behind cover with any short range build, let them come to you, and if you must press the attack, don't do it over open ground unless there is no other option.

Nice post, this Mech actually looks like it'd be fun to pilot... But you play with Throttle Decay on? Ew.

I've played with Streak Cats before but haven't had a lot of success. The Kintaro-18 with five streaks, two medium lasers, and BAP is my dedicated light chaser. I think I'm going 106.9 or something with speed tweak and while lights can outrun me I can usually stay with them long enough to give them a serious mauling if not kill them outright. My teammate and I run identical builds and we've gotten fairly proficient in isolating lights and snuffing them out. Frankly it works against just about anything and the other day me and another teammate (who was in a Jenner) wrecked shop on a whole lance (two Victors, a Firebrand, and a GaussCat) by ourselves. I got six kills and 1,130 damage in that match with sixteen destroyed components. It's a fun build that blends speed and persistent firepower (chain-firing the streaks). I've become a fan of the Streaks and now that I have more experience the OP's build might be fun to try again since my A1 is set up as a LRM5 Troll at present.
