BLR-1D http://mwo.smurfy-ne...69da378797688fa I've never played a BLR so I don't know if it runs well with XL's or not. Or if it's even a good mech, but this build seems like it would be fun. I saw the 3 ballistic slots and immediately thought 3 uac5's, but all three are in the arm... might as well not even have 3 ballistics.

You could try a Triple AC2 build. I used to run a triple AC Hunchy forever ago and it was pretty hilarious.

Personally, I only use XLs on my -1S LRM boat. The BLR is a fairly broad mech so side torsos tend to pop when you're brawling. Not saying it can't work, but you'll have to be careful.

BLR-1D has a whole lot of ammo and does not run too hot at all. It moves pretty fast, and is a super strong extreme-range fighter. Just be sure to shoot early and shoot often, as that weapon arm will go boom right quick if you get shot up. I recommend Advanced Zoom and dakka everything that moves.

I like to run this:

BLR-1D

Consider defending if your ultra jams and you're taking a lot of fire. Go easy on the lasers while dakkaing.

As for the XL engine. I find most people prioritize the left torso and then the right. If you have a very large XL you may be able to twist well enough but I would feel uncomfortable with an XL outside of very specialized builds.

BLRs run XLs extremely well as their CT is enormous, try to roll damage as much as possible and it wll survive much longer (obviously). Pretty decent build but you will probably only need 3 tons of ammo for the LBX as BLRs arms do tend to get shot off at some point in the match.
As far as AC2 loadouts go a BLR 1D can sustan fire from 3 AC2s longer than nay other mech, I had 1 with 24DHS, 2 MLs, 10 tons ammo, 325XL, and it could fire 3 AC2s for 2 minutes straight or 2 AC2s forever with no heat generation.

Maybe I will give the dakka dakka a try, I like high dps, direct fire support over pretty much everything else. Just the other mechs I have with ac2's tend to get hot quickly, but they only run like twelve to fourteen DHS.
Could leave the other arm empty, and use it as a shield while torso twisting, like I do in my 3D. that should help with losing the ballistic arm.

Dont xl build battlemasters...I get a good laugh when i see one die from an XL death...The mech is as wide as an awesome, and even with a decent size xl engine fairly slow, and most people are going to try to strip off your cannon arm, or its attached torso.

Also try the 5/2 build...Two ac2s one ac5. You get the good dpm out of the two ac2s, and it makes people get the heck from in front of you in a hurry. the Ac5 fires slower and keeps the heat down somewhat better than if you had run with triple ac2's. toss in some supporting lasers and call it a DPM build...you can do this all with decent ammo and a standard (albiet slow) engine so you dont have the xl vulerablility, and even tho you have to "stare" at people to get decent damage in, nobody is going to want to park in front of that fire. You can rip even Atlases apart in about 2 good bursts from this mech if you keep some cover around you while you cool down.

A standard engine does significantly improve the durability of this mech but I found it difficult getting a good balance of speed and weapons load out using a standard. I did roll with 6 Medium lasers and 2 AC5s for a while and that was probably my favorite standard engine build (STD325) for the BLR-1G. On the other hand when I changed to an XL350 I was able to up my heat efficiency, speed/maneuverability and trade 2 of the mediums for large lasers. So far in my experience this is a much better build that allows to play the range game a bit but also punish opponents when I get in close.

The XL just requires a bit more defensive skills and on occasion a more cautious attitude but its a trade-off thats been worth it.

Guess its just down to playstyle. I dont mind my standard 275 battlemaster at all, i just walk around the map like "who else want some!!!??" Probably a throwback from too many games in Atlases. xD I have noticed its really easy to kill Battlemasters now tho, now that i know people actually run these with xl engines.

Standard 275... holy slow! It totally does come down to playstyle. I'm probably just too used to running around at 80-100 kph with my mediums that when I get into a big clunky mech its just not comfortable. If it works for you by all means carry on and try to take advantage of my XL engine.

you'll probably win...

Bought a Orion- V, hated it. Everything the Orion is capable of the phract does it better, and with JJ. Or the VTR for five more tons. Sold it, bought a hawk 2d, ac10/2mlas/4streaks. Because my unit needed me in a shawk for Marik civil war and I didn't have one, doesn't look like I will be getting a BLR anytime soon.( not even sure I want one anymore lol)
