Leads me to believe that someone in the PGI dev team really hates light... Just imagine during the age where a single jumpjet had the power of 5 !! No terrain slow down !! Super Streak killer missiles !!
The QQ from all the assault mech pilots on this jump jetting ECM horror would have broken the banks. :o

Have to say I die in a spider pretty quick if I make an error.
Maybe invincibility shields were out when I bought them.

And besides that, all 3 spiders are kind of meh. The K is pure trolling. Those MGs need their nerf taken away (again), to make it viable, at least a bit.

the 5D... beside ECM, what do you get? 3 energy where you can fit like 9 tons max so 2x ML and 1x LPL/PPC - so you have around a 40 damage alpha, barely enough for backstabbing but at least something to work with. For that you stay slow as the heavier lights.

So the 5V... get UAV and Arty and try to get those two things out. This is kind of fun gameplay but in the end you have fun for a minute and after that you have 2 ML and 12 JJ - you can be a pain in the *** and maybe tip a game over but you won't get any reward for it. Very frustrating to level up I have to say.

I had determined long ago that before any MG buffs... the 5K was worse than the 5V. Since the MG buffs, this has easily reversed itself. However, you have to consider the fact that competing for the "worst mech variant" is not what the game should have... and trying to get this addressed/fixed is kinda depressing. :o

Im just gonna say and WISH that PGI will rework some of the Energy hardpoints and at least give ONE for either LA or RA. This way, I can have and ENJOY using 12 Jumpjets to get on top of a very high building, while using my ARM MOUNTED TAG to call in LRMs on enemies that cant see me above them! (Crimson Strait or Frozen City)

Oh wait.... lets follow BT lore and keep it so only 2 MLs (MPLs) can be used in the Center torso!!!

(Despite PGI saying several times in posts and Vlogs "We want our game to offer players Total customization....)

Spiders used like I just said, would be a very Fun and Rewarding Role to play as a Light mech!!!

With 12 JJ and great timing, you can just barely leap over the walls in HPG Manifold. So if you're playing it on Conquest, well, that's about the only reason to take an SDR-5V.

It was my first mech. Weep for me.

As I've said, they need to increase its torso twist range, then increase its torso pitch range until there are clipping issues. Then adjust the model to fix them and increase it some more. All that time in the air, and you can't shoot anyone from up there...

Quite. Jumping over other mech's heads is kinda useless if you can't shoot them while they cannot respond.

This. They likely won't do any appreciable damage against you, but they can make you waste tons of time trying to kill them.

And anyone who says 'They're easy to kill if you can aim, newbs' is lying through their teeth. A well driven Spider is extremely hard to hit unless you're boating Streaks. The Spider is the most difficult-to-hit light, and if they're easy to hit, you'd think every other light mech would die in seconds every match.

I thought I read somewhere in battletech lore that the spider was originally an anti personel mech. This would explain the fact that it has less hard-points and armor. But that said the spider is my fav light mech. ECM + 1ERppc + 2ML + Jumpjets is just too much fun!

Got bored decided to hop into the free spider for a game

-687 damage
-5 kills
-5 assists

Nerf spiders jesus. That was a RANDOM game for FUN.

The Spider is perfectly capable.

All I want is a hero and updated visuals.

Hero should basically be a 5V with 2 energy points in each side torso.

My 5D has a KDR of 15.00. That's 15 kills and 0 deaths. With the 5K, I've whittled many Assaults down to nothing and I run a 180 Standard engine and 1 Jump Jet, but even with that slow of an engine, a Spider can run around an Assault. It also helps to concentrate fire on specific locations instead of just shooting at the 'Mech.

Spider with ecm and a ppc or two llas owns, don'tknow wht you're talking about.

Nerf all light mechs, shouldn't be able to take on heavys and assaults. And put collision back in the game.
