How the heck am I getting paired with players like this? They're so new and so bad that they don't know how to pilot -- where to go -- don't listen -- run in trials?

Either my ELO is way lower now or the matchmaker is messed up because carrying games like this in a medium by myself is getting stupidly frustrating.

I'm having repeated games of this tonight.

Your mistake.. YOU SOLO PUGGED !!
Decent ELO ? Guess what.. All ELO MM cares is it wants players to have a 1:1 win/loss ratio.

You solo pug.. ELO MM says.. "Ahhh this guy has decentELO.. Here ! How about winning with 8 noobs in your team !"
ELO MM continues with evil laughter. :D

Bigger headache solo pug grinding lights.... Last I tried during prime time.. I was TK'ed twice and had my leg blown off by the friendly air strike. :D

"working as intended" ...

Also: it's called Elo, a name, not an abbreviation.

Seriously, why do we make this kind of post? They have repeatedly stated that things are "working as intended" and anything they will fix is "sometime soon". In PGI speak that means any time between 2016 and 2045.

Just stop buying MC until they actually fix the multitude of issues.

Welcome MavRCK,

You have now reach a sufficent ELO rating to get paired with new/bad players in order to average the ELO sum of your team so that the MM will have an easier time finding opponents.
And yes it is working as intended, and yes the MM is pulling new/bad players in match way out of their league so that they get killed on the first mistake they make. Much fun ...

If you do a quick search on the forums, you'll find more than a hundred threads about this problem, some of them are dating since the introduction of ELO ratings in the MM back in march 2013.

Now be prepared to field only heavie/assault cheese build mech in order to carry your team.
You have been warned.

PS : Sandpit where are you when we need you ?

Building teams instead of entire matches, using Elo for entire weight classes instead of mech variants, no weight limits for groups, bugs we do not even have a way of finding. Just the usual things.

No 0:12, so where is the problem?
I have those matches all the time but do I make new threads for every miserable match?

How about making threads when you win against a team with ease?

Are you trying to be glib? Of course it feels just as bad when you win for free.

He pretty much said it right there.

The matchmaker puts together two teams...one it predicts to win, one it predicts to lose. If you're on the one it predicts to lose and actually win, then your Elo has a chance of going up. Vice versa for the other way around.

The problem with the current Elo metric is that it's got such a HUGE spread that it's looking for (1400 points). New players, after their first 25 matches, start off with a 1300 score. You, let's say you're a high-mid range player and have a 2200. That means that you could be playing with people that have an Elo as low as 800 (if that's even possible). That's basically your issue there, not much you can do about it.

That having been said, I'll quote Sandpit: "Your experience may not be the same as everyone else's." That means that just because you are experiencing what you interpret to be repeatedly unbalanced games, not everyone is experiencing this, I guess.

I, on the other hand, am there with you. I'm experiencing the same thing, over and over again. Allow me to be the first to welcome you to the "We're taking one for the team" club....we're eating the unbalanced roflstomps so other people don't have to.

How many forum threads we have about winning with no effort? Why so many people feel the need to make a new thread about an old topic?

Having almost equal Elo on both teams does not translate into fair matches. 5:12 is a totally fine match result for games without respawn. :D

I've had many problems with matchmaking too. For some reason whenever I pick a locust the enemy team has a roughly 80% chance of doubling my team's tonnage. B)

I can feel you there...trying to get experience for my Cicada variants is a trying thing ;) If I don't get a ton of Centurion pilots (my record is 10 of them in one match, plus my CDA-2A), I get a good mix of weights with idiots. Something about my CDA-2A/B brings out all the spider players who stand still...in front of an Atlas...

Yeah elo isn't matching you with people with the same exact elo score, it's just matching people together as they come in and setting against a team with a roughly similar average elo. At least that's what I have been lead to believe.

Also, every now and then good people have bad games and bad players have good games. If some guy gets focused early and caught in a bad spot, sometimes there's not a lot he can do before dying first with only a paltry 100 dmg done.

Basically youre left with anyone who has a positive ELO carrying the tribe of noobs that have a lower one. Combine this with the massive tonnage gaps that are frequently seen, and it leads to the conclusion that everyone except PGI seems to have understood- MWO matches are not fun!

Tonnage disparity is not the main problem but yes, it tends to aggravate the issue.

Welcome to the last six months of my life.

The only escape is to drop in a premade, where you'll stomp or be stomped, which is at least an improvement on continually being the last solo guy standing vs 12 relatively undamaged opponents.

Or, play another game where the matchmaking is less fundamentally borked.

did you change weight classes, each weight class, (light, medium, heavy and assault) have different elo levels.

The problem will be the same in the end.
