Just bought the DD and I am wondering what to change from the stock setup and where to go with it.
I really wanna keep the ballistic slots filled but not really a fan of the machine guns so either looking for the ac2-5 range and how to equip those.

2xUAC5+anything works well. You will need to buy Double Heatsinks, and you want to replace Ferro Fiber with Endo Steel (same slot space, more tonnage saved). Some basic builds would be 2xUAC5+AC2+2xML, 2xUAC5+2xLL+4xMG, 2xUAC5+2xMPL+4xMG, AMS. The last one would be the cheapest modification, and the safest build (lots of ammo, great cooling, AMS), but at the cost of lower medium to long range punch.

The DD isn't terribly ideal. The 6 ballistic slots can only be effectively filled with machine guns because even ac2s are too heavy... And ghost heat. It's why the jm6-s is a flat out superior chassis. 4b 4e presents many more effective options.

Anyways decent build will look very similar. Of course you'll have ac40 builds, but more appropriately I'd recommend 2ac2 2ac5 2ml for a stagger for support build.

Dual AC/20s plus 2 Medium Lasers and armor upgrades.

This is an insane Mech (although it takes practice and it is vulnerable in the back).

These are Builds that should work for the DD with the XL260 that comes with it

3xUAC / 2xMLaser Build

2xAC5 / 2xAC2 Build

2xAC20 / 2x MLaser Build (well somewhat boring cause 50% of all Jager have this Setup, but for a Reason)

2xAC10 / 4xMG / 2x MLaser Build

2xGaus Build (not my Cup of Tea, but some People like to play Sniper)

I have only played it a few times, but I came up with that same dual AC10/ quad machine gun build. It is a surprisingly stable performer.

My six ac2 DD is hilarious but I wouldn't recommend it for beginners.

The config of two ac2's and two ac5's is very effective. Upgrade the chassis with endosteel and double heatsinks and add some extra ammo. Just point and click and things die.

I think you guys got the wrong links there but the other build options look really nice.
still getting used to the jager with the stock build but as long as i keep myself hidden from the enemy team and making quick shots here and there and when the match gets to the brawling phase i just make my shots count and count the bodies after it.

I use a gauss + AC/10 + 4MG build. Nice thing is that it doesn't require DHS, as the only heat made is from the AC/10. It gives a good combination of sniper and brawler, and the MGs will crit things in a blink of an eye.

I generally leave the lasers off, I find the extra tons of ammo to be a better use of weight.

Swapping out the FF for ES is a good idea though - you'll save more weight with ES than you will with FF.

First thing to take care of with a brand new Jager is to fix the armor. The basic setting is paper thin, you will need at least 4-5 tons of extra armor to get this chassis into play. And also don't forget the DHS, that should be applied to any mech you use. The 260XL engine the DD comes with is alright, I would never tamper with that.

The most obvious setup is the dual AC20 mentioned before. It makes the mech a really good first striker, capable of crippling even assaults. Just stick to the pack, preferebly near to a big guy, and share that love. On normal maps chainfire the AC, on really cold mapd you can sometimes fire simultanously. It's my hot-rod mech, and I absolutely love it ;)

The cheap setup is swapping the AC2s for 4 MG-s. Not a first striker, but shines during mid game, when everybody is a bit worn already.

And there is the conservative setup involving AC10-s. Not a shining star, more like a reliable workhorse.

And don't forget, that the greatest disadvantage this chassis has is it's fame. People will constantly try to fry your side torsos, so keep it spinning and spread the damage.
