Need I say more? Jagers are considered the best ballistics mech in the game, as the DD has 6 slots for ballistic style weapons. the 4X Cataphract has 4 Ballistic slots but is slow as dirt even with max engine, so the 3D is considered a better alternative with 2 ballistic slots. Both Highlanders and Victors have at least one, except for the 733P variant of the Highlander, and the 9S on the Victors has 3 ballistic slots. All are fantastic mechs, and I can personally vouch for the Cataphracts and Highlanders, but not the Victors or Jagers.

Be warned though, there is no sane JM6-DD build that lets you utilize all 6 slots, unless you're a fan of MGs (which, I don't know, you might be, I won't judge). I was a bit disappointed to discover this after a lot of experimentation with mine, but it still plows ass and brings a decent amount of dakka.

Part of it also depends on your playstyle. Jagers lean towards hanging back and providing fire support, where Cataphracts (speculation here, since I don't own any) seem to work better at getting in an dirty.

Very much actually - if the Jager is denied the use of his sniping skills (and even sometimes then - there are some LL or PPC sniper builds for the 'Phract) the Cataphract will simply out-tonnage it.

To be fair, is it really considered sane if you're sporting six MG's?

I'm waiting in anticipation of this bad boy (and fully expecting it to never appear)

Of course now.... very few have ever called me sane..... so YMMV on that

I was thinking more maybe 3 or 4 more autocannons with the rest rounded out with MGs, although I wouldn't be surprised to see someone with 6mgs. Not surprised, just disappointed...

My current thought is three AC2s on one arm, and a UAC in the other. I like that I can group all three AC2s in the same arm - it'll make convergence that much better.

1. Buy JM6-S.
2. Fit Endo, DHS, 225XL or 250XL engine, 8-10 tons of ammo.
3. Add armour.
4. Set all AC's on weapon group 1, ML's on group 2.
5. Only use ML's if you run out of ammo.
6. Win.

With this mech if you aren't getting the highest match score and damage (600-1000+) in nearly every match you're doing something wrong.

What everyone else said.

If you feel like opening your wallet, you might want to invest in an Ilya Dakkamets Muromets. Due to nerfing it isn't what it once was, but it's still quite good.

I'll probly get moaned at for running a cheesy build but I dearly love my JM6-S

3xUAC/5
4xM/Las
XL270
Armor bias forward (maxed on arms, medium on legs)
Endo, DHS, 5t ammo.
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...a668229d06e21bd

Tis a bit delicate I admit, so fire support role and take careful aim sniping. Oh lordy! When you master the UAC/5 kung-fu it's deadlier than ol' ***** Sparrow's combined chilli con carne and drain unblockerer.

Average 3 kills and around 600 dmg. (My personal best in this was 7kills at around 800-ish dmg)

I'm thinking Jager, not Cataphract.

And the 4 AC5 is definitely on my to-do list. But there is a big part of me that wants to try and make that "3 ballistic slots in one arm" useful for something other than MGs.

DD's setup isn't that much worse than the others IMO, so I would grab it first
(the engine can be very useful for playing the others if no other reason)

DD first if you don't have another XL engine, otherwise Firebrand, S, or A are all acceptable depending on what you want to go for first.
Firebrand is a hero (MC required), S is balanced (so best choice if you can outfit instantly), and A is missile dependent.
