I have to restart about 1 in every 4 times that I go from battles back to the staging area. Sometimes when the staging area is "refreshing" the refresh icon will just spin forever. I've never had to restart a game so much as this one.
Since I've been playing for one day now I'd like to know if this is just something the devs are working to fix, some patch I need to employ, something outside the game I need to address? I've got great ping inside games (around 80) and no slowness playing the game (good vid card, ram, etc). It's just going from screen to screen when updating, coming back from battles, and things like that.
What's up with that?

It is a bug with the new UI, one of many. Alt+F4 and re-logging is the only solution for now.

I don't have this problem, and haven't heard of anyone in the DHB with it so I hardly think it's qualifies as a "live with it" type problem.
Try running the repair tool (search the forum, I am remoted into a old, slow PC at work or I would link it for you) and see if that resolves it.
If not, get CCleaner and run the registry cleaner. I also recommend checking the Startup section and disabling programs like Adobe, MS Office etc from launching at boot so you can conserve resources and possibly remove a conflict.
Make sure your hard drive isn't full or nearly so, that can cause issues with the swap file.

Read the patch feedback forum, lest you end up sounding like a condescending ****.

Yeah, I'm getting that and "An error occurred while saving" in the mech lab and pilot skill trees. It's almost constant now.
