I felt that way about UACs for awhile. Then they just sorta clicked. If you tap-tap right, they jam, but not unbearably much.

As far as an AS7-D, you might want to try 2 LB10-X, 4 ML, 2 SRM6, STD300. It's a fun build.

As far as spending MC... Mechbays first, Hero 'mechs second... And that's it. I wouldn't buy a Champion, or Premium Time.

As for specific heroes to buy... I don't have one because I'm broke, but I think pretty much anyone will tell you that Ilya Muromets is one of the top 'mechs to buy. I personally have The X-5, and I love it.

The only thing I don't like about dual Uacs in an atlas is you have to face tank for a long time. I prefer the ac20 but dual lb10 with large lasers would be my second choice.
