So.... Was playing with my Wolvy (has to be my favorite Mech now besides the Mad Cat) tonight...

Posted Image

We lost due to the conquest capture points... but still.. I did even more damage than the Victor???

My 954 to his 730.

Note* sorry for the shrunk image.. F'ing Image-shack apparently decided to start charging people for their hosting services.. and Photobucket shrinks everything down like ass-hats.

I'm also finding that my damage in mediums is creeping up to match and regularly pass the assaults and heavies on my team.

Having recently tried focusing more on my own VTR chassis... i can see why. Big mechs get shot. A lot. And Quickly. And it never ends until you're a smoldering pile of slagged metal and circuitry. lol

I can't survive longer than 10 mins in an assault, yet regularly live the full match when I pilot my mediums.

Yeah I pull lots of matches in my Shadowhawks with more kills/assists/damage than the rest of my lance combined(even when the rest of the lance is in Cataphracts and Victors)

I totally second that. I am mostly piloting an Atlas and its weakspots have turned out to be so obvious over time - and at the same time hard to miss. And as far as my experience goes, this can be said about almost every Assault. I still enjoy piloting them though.

Yeah, I often dominate in a cicada.

I put it down to the speed and agility of a medium allow you to always be in a good position to lay some fire on the enemy, whereas an assault will spend half the match just getting into range.

So firing a medium's weapons for 70% of the match will yield more damage than the arsenal on an assault firing for 20% of the match.

Thats my 2c

The damage is based on several factors. For a med/light they tend to be moving faster/jinx about so ya more likely to hit arms/side torsos/legs where there are more components, and the armor itself is being stripped off by the heavier mechs who are more likely to be under fire. Considering most ammo are stored in the legs, even if you do not kill the mech that is a lot of damage.

In an assault, the best way to stop getting shot is to have another assault walk in ahead of you. It takes teamwork. Assaults taking turns in front is a powerful powerful thing. It can force the enemy to do 1000+ damage to get the first kill.

Heavies tend to mount firepower equal to assaults, but with less tonnage for armor, heat sinks, and big engines (to fit the extra heat sinks). This makes them even higher priority targets than assaults. Killing them is the shortest path to reduce the enemies' damage output.

Mediums are is an awkward place. Compared to the kings of the battlefield they have about 60% armor 60% firepower and run 50% faster. This is fast enough to get into and out of bad positions better, but not fast enough to increase survivability. They are small enough to spread damage some, but not small enough to be hard to hit.

I find it best to constantly reposition while taking shots. I focus on not being the target rather than focusing on enemy targets. I try keep up battlefield awareness and make a point to lock targets away from the main group to share the information, even if I'm shooting something else. I think this is a very powerful way to make use of the medium's superior torso twist. You can scan more of the battlefield in between shots.

This is what i'm talking about though. A medium is fast enough to do this and therefore spends more time actually shooting vs an assault which spends more time positioning and trying to get LOS rather than pew pewing.
