I bet, you have already been in the following scenario: You are so close to an enemy that you could actually spit on him, but then you would overheat and shut down.
How to trigger it:
If you are closer than X meters to an enemy, your left mouse button attack automatically turns into Punch and your right mouse button attack turns into Kick.
What it could look like:
For now, we wouldn't need Mech-models that can deliver punch- and kick-animations. The damage just magically appears.
What rules?
- Damage inflicted with limb is proportional to tonnage.
- Damage received with that limb is 1.
- Arm can only punch when at least Lower Arm Activator is installed, damage bonus when Hand Activator is installed.
- Punch hits what's under the crosshair.
- Kick hits enemy's leg, left or right, depending on what's nearest.

Basically everything about MWO's core design is antithetical to context-specific actions. Every button has a well-defined action. If you find yourself facehugging and overheating a lot, either your brawler build isn't really a brawler build, or you just suck at brawling. There's no reason heat management should become irrelevant at very close range.

iirc, melee attack generate heat.
Either way, this game needs melee. Full stop.

I would like to see this for a Solaris game mode.

I want to see an Atlas crush a Locust inside it's hand.

Nope, but i'd like to see a Hatchet/Axe/Sword implementation for the likes of Hatchetman or Axeman. Kicking sounds wrong for this game. Ain't no Pacific Rim.

Give me decent damage from a DFA first...I'll be satisfied with that for a bit. Or even just scaled collision damage via tonnage (no knockdowns right off the bat).
If that spider rams into my Atlas...I want its armor to SHOW it (not just a point or 2).

Punching seems to fit considering our mech have fists, kicking no.....maybe the heavier u mech is, the longer its take to punch but does more dmg....
