but I don't see it. After several hundred games, I still get 0-8 most of the time (and yeah, mostly in that order, because obviously I'm the very bottom skillwise). So, is there any kind of MM or is it basically just throwing random people together? Search function doesn't work with only three letters, and it's even showing "0 results" instead of "give me more letters".

And while we are at it, can someone tell me what PUG stands for? Everyone uses it, totally ignoring the fact that only insiders seem to know it.

Pug means pick up group. Basically for this game is any game you play that isn't 8 man. Matchmaking is suppose to work by matching you with people of similar skills.

What ELO really does is "TRY" to balance the team out by averaging the overall ELO on both sides. This ends up where a single highly experienced 4 man team use you as shield while they try to play hero and die. So it ends up being 4 experienced players VS 8 average players by 2 minutes in.

Also weight is not balanced so dropping in the heavist mech tends to net you the win. I know many 4 man teams will drop nothing but Assault mechs just to get the 300 to 400 ton weight advantage.

Sorry man ELO just does not work.

There really is a matchmaker and it really does try to put equal teams together (note that equal chances of winning does nto mean it win't be an 8 - 0, once a team ,even a good team, is down two mechs it can be very easy to use number advantage to murder your way to an 8-0)

The thing is, it looks for an even match, then when it doesnt' find one, it gets less picky and starts looking for any match. The longer the search window, the less even the teams will be ,both in terms of skill and mech weight.

OP, what time of day (include timezone) do you normally play? This is a bigger factor in ELO matchmaking than people give it credit for.

The short answer (as my long answer is 3 pages long) is this. The matchmaker works better when more players are available queuing at that individual instance that you click the launch button. If only 16 people have clicked launch in the last 3-5 seconds, then those 16 people are going to get matched together regardless of group status, weight class, or ELO.

If a 1000 people queue up at the same time, the ELO match maker will work perfectly.

This - you have better odds of a fair game during peak hours than late at night.
