If you ever wanted to get into the cockpit of an atlas, now might be your chance. The Boar's Head mech is on sale for 50% off. Pretty sweet deal.

They've been putting a lot of hero mechs on sale lately. I'm not sure why, but I greatly appreciate it. I've managed to pick up two heros I wanted, the Firebrand and now the Boar's Head.

My hope is that they are test driving lower MC costs for heroes..

I think they are missing out by charging so much for Heroes and going for large single buys instead of making them more accessible and relying on bulk sales(like most other F2P games do and what makes them so profitable).

I won't argue with that! Going to have to try out some sweet build for this bad boy. I'm thinking an AC20 build is where its at.

I'd say it's a mix of this, and them seeing what kind of boost effect there is for purchase of mech bays and cosmetic items.

If the price is lowered on hero mechs, it encourages people to buy in on chassis they haven't worked with yet, which in turn encourages them to get more mech bays for the variants they need to grind skills.

A lot of companies (Valve does it all the time with Steam) will leave the base price of something pretty high and then have frequent deep sales. Even if the sale price is still very high, the fact that people see that the normal price is, say, 60 USD and they're only paying half that makes a lot of people willing to spend more for a game than they would if it were straight-up cheaper to buy in the first place.

I'm sure it's some combination of "higher price means higher quality" and "sales are limited time offers, must strike while the iron is hot," among other things.

All in all, it's a great direction for PGI to take things, and UI2.0 was the bottleneck there, since now they can offer giveaways (like the free Centurion+Mechbay they're doing now) and dynamic short-term "flash" sales without bringing down the servers or otherwise interrupting normal play.

Would have gotten it, if not for the DS I bought in the last sale.

Since I only need one hero per weight division, it is PGI's loss. ;)

Don't let the Large Laser's get to your head, deadly mech. Boars Head.

Only for the pilot. Atlas + XL engine = bad. Don't care how fast you can waddle, you're still waddling along in an Atlas.

Drop 2 Large Lasers and 4 DHS, back off to a Standard 335, and install an AC/20 with 3 tons of ammo. Better Mech, and coincidentally fits on an RS chassis saving you the MC cost of the Boar's Head.

I've never thought that the BH offers anything over the RS, build-wise. You just can't make good use of the extra energy hard points due to heat issues.

Unless of course, you use the build I posted. This isn't a debate about XL + Atlas. Without the ballistic in the torso the Atlas slims down. At 71 kph it can be quite a surprise, the 6 LL can melt mechs quick.

I like to use the benefits of the chassis rather then put all the mechs into a cookie cutter mold. I can make it work quite well.

Sure. I do too when one is constrained to a particular chassis.

Lacov was asking if he should get the Boar's Head, though. In that case he's not constrained to the chassis, so the fact that you can make a very similar but more effective build on the RS chassis means he probably shouldn't bother.

I can make all kinds of interesting builds on the Boar's Head, but that doesn't make it viable compared to the other Atlases that are available. It's good enough for pugging, though, if you like Atlases and want the 30% c-bill bonus for grinding.

I have the BH and its a nice mech (though I run it with a standard since people tend to focus on the Side torsos), but I'd rather run my D. 2 less lasers but the fact that 2 of them are in the CT makes a difference. Nothing like getting your STs blown off and standing there neutered waiting for someone to finish the job.

Fair enough I wasn't responding to anyone in particular originally in this thread.

I still disagree with other Atlas being superior. My RS pales in comparison to my Boar's Head, and its impossible to mount 6 Large Laser's on any other Atlas.

Viability of a mech is in the pilot. :D

But that is down to personal taste I guess.
