don't think any 100 ton mech will effectively utilize XLs.....well, we'll see how the Dire Wolf Performs.

I like XL......

I like XL's too, it's just it seems the heavier the mech the less effective the XL. My stalker use to have XL, i ditched it for a huge standard and double heat sinks. Turns out, he now has more firepower with better heat efficiency because of switching to a standard. Anyhow, I'm interested to see how the Direwolf will perform with an XL, especially since it originally mounted a Starfire 300 XL (of course thinking......what clan mech didn't mount an XL?)

Hopefully the Devs will remember the engine hit rule for heat...if not, The Daishi will perform like an Atlas...with a standard engine.

In my oppinion XL vs STD is not a matter of mech, but equipment... If you have long distance support assault mech, XL engine is fine. I got PPC Atlas and i dont need the STD engine in it. But brawl Atlas with XL is suicide of course :D

I have almost all the engines so I'll use whichever I need although I seem to enjoy a STD 290 in my long range fatlas. Still, if I wanted to be.. as fast as an atlas can be, I would.

The XL engine in my B' Head gets me outta trouble at times when I'm fighting long range and notice my whole team shifted to the right for no reason I can understand. It's killed me and saved me so it really depends. I am dying less with it so I might be developing a style with it.

With the current state of the mech lab I cant even think of trying to change anything on any of my builds.

I have found that XL are great in lights (my preferred Mech) and they are great and as small as I am most of I get CT way before I lose a side torso (Jenner).

That being said most Assault and Heavy class Mechs seem to last a lot longer and there by doing more damage with a standard engine. They can fit larger guns (AC/20) or more LRMS in the case of the Atlas if you don't have an XL taking up space.

It has been mentioned in other forums (sorry I can't find the link) that the clan Mech will have to lose both side torsos, center torso, or both legs to be put down. Your clan Mechs will do just fine in MWO if that is the case.

With all this in mind if you are killing the guys in red and having a blast mount what you want and PEW PEW on.

A does not alway = B in this equation.

An example, is the Victor. You put a Standard 320 in, you have something like this VTR-9S

Now with an XL, you can have that same firepower, but be noticeably faster and cooler
VTR-9S
both of which enhance survivability, and by running cooler, you DPS,

or
VTR-9S
still be faster, but have better firepower, alpha, cooling and DPS.

on one you have a sustained 4.61 DPS, the other 6.44. That is 276.6 damage per minute vs 386.4 per minute. If mech b survives 5 minutes, that is 1932 (potential damage) you need an additional 2 minutes to do the same damage in mech A, assuming you have your full firepower the whole time.

Mind you, this is theory crat, and limited at that, but it is just to point out that lasting longer is no indication of actually doing more damage in this scenario. A zombie centurion left with just 2 Medium lasers for 13 minutes of the match is seldom going to do as much useful damage as one that lasts half the match but can pack an AC20 on top. Because you need damage front loaded in the match to be of most benefit to the team.
