I believe that community warfare should become THE feature that PGI is working on. The addition of mechs, maps, and potentially weapons with the clan are all very exciting, but I don't believe that they keep people playing long term. If the game had a persistent competitive experience, such as through territory control on a grand scale, I feel that the community would become far more active. Heck, if they could implement it with huge scale seamlessly connected maps, similar to planetside, I think that the experience would be an even better one.

As it is, the only real incentive to play is the fun of the matches, and while they can be extremely fun that isn't horribly engaging.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

That's the plan. ;)

PGI knows that many "veteran" players are waiting for CW to bring a new layer of complexity to the game, encourage the use of Player Guilds, etc, and they are working to bring it online.

Other things had to be done first, like designing a fluid UI that can be hot-fixed at a whim instead of having to be re-written from base code every time they want to make a change as small as how a text box is shaped, and other in-game functions like more maps and game mode testing.. and stuff.

PGI wants CW to come online fast, too, as it will lead to more content sales. Everybody knows that more players = more income = more content = more players...

yet people act like PGI intentionally trying to drive people away. as if anybody wants to destroy everything they have worked hard to get too

I don't think anyone thinks PGI WANTS to drive customers away. I think many people ARE being driven away by PGI's seeming incompetence in running the game's progress however.

Had PGI not promised CW at around last September (launch day) instead of the upcoming September... the situation wouldn't be so dire.

Right now, it's just a slow painful death march until actual CW is implemented. Then, you'd have to check on the survivors before we welcome the "reinforcements".

I think with the new UI, we're gonna get an inflow of newbies. I'm hoping the new user experience improves when CW Hits. If so, then PGI will have officailly earned my trust back as a customer.

yup. assuming PGI can stick to the plan, the clan mechs will bring everyone back for at least a look. PGI just needs to have CW & private matches ready so they stay.

Most people will come back. New ones will be added as well.

The Clan purists who were expecting their mechs to be OP will either crawl back and play quietly or pursue whatever pipe dream of a mod someone gives them. And some of the current haters with anger management issues will find things to gripe over as long as the game isn't 100% perfect and keep justifying it by saying that CW should have come a year ago and been better (i.e. a one-year-old game should have looked like a three-year-old game).

Actually, the mass return will happen in April, because that is when the first phase of CW...i.e. public and private matches along with tonnage matching. When the critics think CW, they think of its completion in the fall, but you know the tonnage matching and private matches alone will bring a renaissance.

I've learned to take it in stride.... I have a crap ton of steam games to play to keep me entertained. ...

Take too long with CW or execute it poorly will hurt their rice bowl and not mine. ..

We still basically have zero idea of how CW is even going to exist.

If PGI has anything approaching a real design for CW, they haven't told anyone about it... which seems weird, since it'd help allay peoples' fears that CW simply does not exist at all, and never will.

All we've ever gotten is vague promises... no actual explanation of how anything in CW will work.

That' leads me to believe that they haven't made any real progress in its development at all. It's just vaporware.

I'll be back for cw for sure. Currently my gaming interest is locked at titan fall. The concept of jumping in and out of a mech is so cool.

However I do know this.

No Clans before Community Warfare.

What is CW other than an acronym though? We don't know anything about it other than that MW4 NBT and MPBT had something like it.

It needs to be more than a conquest map linked to the current mech smash 'n bash we have.

For me, the longer it is to be implemented "FULLY", the less inclined I will be to come back, let alone the fact I can't play for any considerable time now since cockpit glass. The game in its current state isn't worth putting up with physical discomfort, If there was CW as detailed out I would have at least tried to persevere.

It is a given people have left, its just a matter of how many.

CW won't bring me back, for a couple of reasons.

First is, my progress is so far behind the people who stuck it out and played all the way through that I can never catch up to them without a vast commitment in time or money, neither of which I will give to MWO.

Secondly, I have no confidence what so ever that PGI understands what Mechwarrior is. Their choices are so consistently bad that even if CW was done perfectly, it would only be a matter of time before some other terrible decision ruined it and took all my time/money input with it.

Nope, they've screwed up too often and for too long to win me back. And I doubt I am alone in that.

If you think Community Warfare will be anything more than a poorly coded hex map that somewhat changes based on random matches at this point, I think you're deluding yourself.

I just want lobbies.

Given they were "starting the pipeline" months after it was overdue and then have been working on UI2 and Clan stuff, I would bet you anything that CW currently exists as a bunch of scribbled up notes in Paul or Russ's desk drawer.

Without a doubt. The same place it's been for 2 years.
