1) Who cares? its only for like $5 of pretend money.
2) It's better than nothing.

Difference between arty and roids are that:
1.) Arty is legal and everyone have access to it. There is no rules that say you cannot bring it. It was also made to be part of the game.
2.) Steroids are illegal to be used by athletes as it only gives those with access to it unfair advantages and also due to adverse side effects (such as depression, roid rage, etc).

Personally, when I buy a new Mech, it takes around 20 - 25 matches to unlock all my Basic efficiencies and by then, my K/D in that particular Mech rarely changes. So I think a 50 match cap sounds about right.

TRUTH...however, some people treat it as Viagra for their ePeen...There's a lot at stake when you have to feel validated, man!

Shockingly enough, a lot of the numbers held their own ground (W-L and K-D ratio was more or less the same since previously).
You rediscover stuff about certain mechs and variants, and then also remember why you hate them.

Honestly I got bored from the grind to get in 10 decent games, I can not imagine how people can do 1000+ in a weekend : (
This tourney did prove a few things to me and that is the meta as I see it has huge advantages. Lots of pre made's in meta mech's stomped the new and casual payers as well as the non meta mech's into the dirt for fun and epeen.
This dominance was very evident but I would love to see PGI give the players that want that competitive game play a place to do it but also allow a separate game play for new or casual players that do not.
It was just sad to spectate new players in trial mech's that don't even know the ranges of the weapons or still in third person view etc. against a pre made of meta mech's "Farming" them by doing all the damage they can before finally killing them.

Just play your matches, enjoy the weekend
Much more fun this way, and you get an idea from your placement over just playing 10-20 matches vs the guys farming those epic games of where you stand.
Hopefully the game in the future will reward teamplay better and objective based missions and the scoring system is improved so we see actual gameplay happen to win matches, not just to farm kills.
even on conquest, no one takes any bases, it's a slugfest.
Fix the gamemodes and pay please PGI.
lol - I was alternating between pugging in lights and dropping with my wife in her new blackjacks
It was hard, but I got her playing. Step 1: find other ladies and group with them. Step 2: tell wife. Step 3: let jealous wife listen in on comms. Profit!

My brain broke down when I read this.
I play with a bunch of friends, and their wives/girlfriends started playing... she heard female voices on comms and got slightly jealous so she got on teamspeak and started chatting, then the ladies started to group up... now they're dropping together (and doing well!). It's awesome - she's been pugging a lot because, in her words "running in a group makes you lazy". :so proud:
She's very partial to the BJ1 champ build. Again, in her words "I'm gonna go shoot some d**ks off!"

If you're married, shouldn't you just go find other ladies?

lol - a group of us guys conspired to get our ladies playing the game
if I could message my past self, I'd tell past me to teach wife how much colors cost. She's spent a lot of her "starter" MC.

Tournament-only queue. You only count games in Tournament mode, you cannot be grouped to launch in Tournament mode, and you only face other players in Tournament mode when in Tournament mode.

I didn't opt in, but I played all weekend and experienced some of the best matches (win or lose) that I ever have. Sure there was a lot of arty at times, but I was not killed once by it. Here's a tip: KEEP MOVING!

I've got the dubious honour of winning the medium category for the Spring Cleaning Tournament on the day Koreanse wasn't playing.
Maybe you'll listen to me.
These Tournament aren't much fun. To win you don't just need skill, you need time. And you'll spend that time grinding for potentially-good matches. That is a match that has the potential of giving you enough points to matter for your ten best matches.
Getting such a match is a matter of luck. Your team mates need to be passive, if they're aggressive they'll either win and take your kills and potential damage or they'll die and lose, preventing you from winning the match on your own due to sheer numbers. For the same reasons your enemy also have to be fairly passive. Ect,ect, ect.
Now don't get me wrong. You need skill to capitalize on a potential match but its simply impossible to do so with every match. Maybe if you're really good you can make more matches work for you but I doubt it.
A potential match happens maybe once every 5-6 games. This means that at 8 minute per match you'll spend 40 minutes of time trying to get a good one. You need 10 of those so, 400 minutes. This comes down to about 6.5 hours of playing. Once you've your 10 in you'll be in the top 20-30, depending on how popular your class is. To make it to the top 10 you'll spend the rest of the weekend trying to improve on those 10 already great matches against other players doing just the same.
As you can see, once you have the ability to compete, its no longer a competition on skill, its an endurance race against your free time. Now I can understand that for most people the prospect of spending the whole weekend on a virtual competition just isn't their thing. It also makes first place rather meaningless, if just means that from the top 20-30 people you had the time to continue and perfect matches.
If I didn't have **** all to do last spring I wouldn't have participated in the first place. The people I outlasted, I know them to be better pilots then I am.
