Seeing as you guys are clanners, though some traditions will cease to exist in real life I had a question.

Say CW kicks off and they make it a option, would any of the clans ever take bondsman? Say in certain battles were you guys take complete control over a planet. You do a random dice roll against the team you destroyed. If it hits some magical number you can offer a pilot a chance to be a bondsman in your clan.
The only thing is you couldnt piock which pilots you rolled on. you would have to roll for all that survived a match or the whole team that died and go from there.
I know the idea isnt perfect, but it would be a good way to keep that fear of the clans out there.

What do you clanners think?

Ill just say this if you come knocking on my door prepare for a fight as HHoD does not go down easy lol.

By the way if you guys ever want to setup 12-mans we always have teams on.

I would love that and a bidding system, but they are quite too complicated for a game like this..

Given you can choose your side yourself, getting picked against your will isn't likely to happen. Interesting idea, but not likely to happen in MWO.

Unless the Clan factions have to be unlocked. I remember the devs hinting a while back that to join Wolfs Dragoons, you would have to max out your Loyalty Points in all 6 houses. Perhaps joining the Clans would only be unlocked by maxing your faction with Wolfs Dragoons (being allowed to return to the Clan homeworlds).

UNLESS

Say a Premium player gets the option to, after joining a Clan, get the opportunity to invite a player to join their Clan, thereby taking a Bondsman. After that, should the inviting player change faction, the Bondsman would follow. This would be an expansion of lore, a moneymaker for Pgi and an opportunity to bypass grinding through camaraderie and encourage the formation of units.

But this would be a good idea, though the complexity is high enough.

If a player chooses to come over and wants to RP it thusly (say they come from an IS house), why yes of course. We have tradition for that within our unit already.

But forcing a player to switch groups is not possible. People are going to play with their friends and no amount of faction-stuff/lore related restrictions are going to force them to change sides...that's just going to drive away players.

Agreed. My point was that it could be used as an invitation system to actually become a member of the Clans, based on previous PGI statements, similar to the StarCraft 2 Invite a Friend method.

As someone who RPs with the Clans I like the idea of being able to take bondsmen, however I take exception to the randomness you propose.

Being taken as bondsman is an honor. It is a privilege accorded to warriors who have demonstrated skill and valor on the battlefield, and then only if they have managed to impress a Warrior of the Clans enough that he or she feels their Clan would be strengthened by adopting the spheroid freebirth into it.

As a player however I have to say that this is never going to fly.

Forcing people to stop playing with those they have played with for any length of time, possibly imposing in-game separation between real-life friends and all he rest may be an accurate depiction of Clan-style warfare and philosophy, but it is guaranteed to piss off players who suddenly have it happening to them. Of course, you could open it up both ways, let the Clan take each other Bondsmen as well, and the Wolf Dragoons likewise for that matter, that way you can piss off people who play IS and those who play Clans equally.

I think I will take pass on the concept.

Only reason why randomness would be involved would be to keep Clans from poaching more or less the best players from each team they face. In a sense it would be a way of extending a invitation to everyone that wants.

But that would deprive the Bondsmen taking of its meaning, quiaff? :P

I would like to see this happen, but forcibly taking people away from their respective faction just for the sake of it will certainly aggravate some people.

The Ghost Bears do have a bondsman system as well, for us it is just used in place of our sibkin rank for those that came from another unit (or just want to RP as a bondsman)
